POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

The production journey of The Laramie Project is one of the most unforgettable experiences I will ever have. Through every rehearsal and every performance I have felt loved, heard, seen and felt like I was an influence with this beautiful show. The creative team and management of it all are incredibly intelligent and talented individuals that I will hold deep in my heart. My director who words could not express how grateful I am to have worked with and has left a lasting impact on me. And to my fellow cast members who have made me laugh and cry during the best moments, filled with joy, love and especially hope. I will forever hold Laramie in my heart and always thank you, Matt🩵☁️

Grateful to the creative collective for this profoundly fulfilling rehearsal process. Witnessing every epiphany and authentic breakthrough has been the greatest of rewards as a theatre educator. Be assured that every tear was balanced with joyful exuberant laughter. “Ya, know what I’m sayin’?”
I am enormously proud of this group of emerging theatre makers.

THE LARAMIE PROJECT opens tonight...

Built from real interviews with the people of Laramie, Wyoming, this play doesn't offer easy answers. It offers honesty, about grief, about hate, about the long, uneven work of a community trying to understand itself. More than two decades later, that honesty still has something to say.

There's no fourth wall in "The Laramie Project." No single hero, no traditional set. Just an ensemble of actors becoming dozens of real people, moment by moment, in a space built for the audience to sit close and witness it firsthand.

This is theatre stripped down to its most powerful form: real words, real people, real consequences. These photos offer a glimpse of what's waiting for you on stage.

"The Laramie Project" includes discussion of anti-gay violence, hate speech and death. Audience discretion is advised.

Belonging | Distance | The possibility of seeing one another differently

"The Laramie Project" doesn't give us one voice or one version of Laramie. It gives us many people who disagree, people who change, people who struggle to understand one another, and people who discover that listening can change the way they see the world.

Listening | Confronting | Discovering what a community carries beneath the surface

"The Laramie Project" is built from the voices of people who lived through an extraordinary moment in an ordinary American town. Their stories are sometimes painful, sometimes surprising, sometimes funny...and always deeply human.

Doing justice to Matthew's story means more than delivering lines. It means sitting with real grief, real fear, real conviction and finding the honesty in all of it. That's the work our cast has been doing in the rehearsal room, night after night, fully present and fully committed to getting it right.

Every actor in "The Laramie Project" is stepping into the words of real people: ranchers, students, clergy, bartenders and neighbors, drawn from hundreds of interviews conducted in Laramie, Wyoming, in the aftermath of Matthew Shepard's murder. Finding each person's distinct voice, their rhythm of speech, the particular way they carry grief or conviction, is only the first challenge our cast faces.

The harder work: many of these voices hold beliefs our actors do not share. Telling this true story means speaking honestly in the words of an entire town's response to tragedy, without judgment and without flattening anyone into a villain or a saint. That is the discipline documentary theatre demands, and it is where the real work begins.
