The Red Bandanna Game isn’t simply a tradition anymore. It is a living legacy. It celebrates character, not accomplishment, and it invites you to participate.

The 1st Red Bandanna Alumni Lacrosse games were played at Alumni Stadium between 2006 and 2008. It was a mix of current BC Club players and former D1 Alumni. Every jersey was #19.

Alum Peter Columbo took home the Red Bandanna MVP. @espn sent a camera crew to the 2008 game, along with producer @drewgallagher45 . His project “The Man in the Red Bandanna” would go on to win a sports Emmy, and become the single best storytelling account of Welles.

Alison, Jefferson and Paige Crowther were in attendance and presented the Red Bandanna MVP.

A lot of credit for making these first games happen goes to @gardnersmitha Austin Gardner-Smith, then a student at BC and lacrosse Club President. Austin now has a son named Welles who plays lacrosse in @hinghamyouthlacrosse .

Powerful words delivered by @brendan_ryanmusic on 9/11/26 at Webster Hall. Brendan’s wife Kristie Irvine Ryan worked with Welles Crowther at Sandler O’Neill on the 104th floor of the South Tower.

“ these are stories of humanity that remind us to appreciate one another, to care for one another, and to not take another day or another person for granted.”

Some traditions start with a first.

This weekend marked another first in professional lacrosse.

For the first time nominees for the Premier Lacrosse League, Welles Crowther, Humanitarian Of The Year Award have been presented with a red bandanna patch to wear in their jerseys for the remainder of the season. This includes the first ever nominees for the award from the Women’s Lacrosse League.

Before their game each nominee receive their patch directly from Alison Crowther, Welles’ mother- a deeply personal moment connecting the athletes who are making a difference today with Wells, enduring legacy of courage, selflessness, and service to others.

The patch is a symbol more than an award. It represents a standard of character and reminder that an athletes impact can extend far beyond the field.

Grateful to have helped shape the collection of moments and memories during a very special weekend in Boston!
