One of our recent pick-ups: 1997-98 Metal Universe Precious Metal Gems Red Terrell Brandon. This is a very clean PSA 4 and numbered to 100 (Green are the first 10, Red the last 90). We’re working on acquiring at least 1 if not up to 3 more Red PMGs but wanted to share this one. #basketballcards #preciousmetalgems #preciousmetalgemsred #whodoyoucollect #findyourgrail

Another PMG entry for the list... but this time from the 2012 Fleer Retro hockey set. That’s another one that appealed to me for a lot of reasons as I started digging into the various PMG options that exist; and I’m clearly not alone, as it has quickly shifted to become one of the more iconic sets within the sport based on the collectors that are chasing it.

It’s a bit of a self-fulfilling prophecy as PMGs prices have exploded the past few years. One of the iconic parallel sets from the late 90s... now cementing its place in ultramodern as well. I remember @brooklynvintagecards first posting about the 3x OG football 🐐 PMG Greens that had come up for auction ~2 years ago. What a wild ride.

There are plenty of reasons to be cautious too though, especially as prices continue to blow through the roof. PMGs are definitely not the be-all-end-all of collecting.

With that said though... 2012 Fleer Retro has clearly become something of a “turning point” set. Hockey is the only sport that #UpperDeck still has the pro license — so it features players in NHL uniforms / logos, as opposed to the retro basketball/football sets which only show players in NCAA teams. Iconic ‘97 design. Major collectors like @wardle_kombat @penguinspirates @mksportscards @hausofcards1 @fiveholecardz etc (??) chasing ‘em

This one of #PatrickRoy has just become a fairly big grail item... so tough to ignore for the list. I’d never owned his iconic 1986 Topps / OPC rookie card design — just one of the vintage cards that always seemed to escaped me. So when I’d noticed this one available early on during my search at a reasonable price it was a no-brainer. Not sure it will stay on the list (and not a ton of characters left to explain why), but Roy (Hasek, Brodeur, etc) truly revolutionized the goalie position.

Outlook: Solid 📈 can’t say that it will continue to rocket from here, but the increase so far feels very stable. The estimated value is probably very conservative (by design). Key stars will remain PC grails 🏆 for years to come.
