This one has been in the works for a long time. The Factor guys gave me a peak at Bardet’s prototype of the new Elara back at Santavall. I was smitten.

This is a one-of-one paint job in the most gorgeous burnt orange you can imagine. It has an almost mirror finish. Otherwise it’s a stock 54cm frame with a 36x120 bar — nice and narrow. And of course it needed the 64 Gravel wheels combined with 55mm tires makes the bike look like a motorcycle.

The entire bike is over-the-top so I finished it with Campagnolo Super Record X — I’ve been on the 2x13 Super Record group on the road for over a year and it has been phenomenal so I figured it’d be amazing off-road as well. In the first couple hundred km it has been flawless: shifts are snappy, brakes are spot on, everything is whisper quiet and the lever ergonomics are my favorite.

First rides confirm the expected straight line speed. What I didn’t expect is how snappy and quick it is whether in tight single track or high speed descents. It just wants to turn in without being overly twitchy. I set it up with my road position so it’s the most aggressive I’ve ever gone on gravel but so far I’m loving it.

QUAND LE PELOTON SE RATERA ET LAISSERA GAGNER VEISTROFFER ?

Actif depuis le début du Tour avec pas moins de 3 échappées, Veistroffer a repris le flambeau des courageux français comme @yoyo.offredo et @stephanrossetto .

Un caractère bien trempé pour notre français qui anime chaud étape qui pourrait être barbante... Et pour tous ces efforts Baptiste mérite de lever les bras sur la grande boucle.

Le profil de l'étape 17 semble un profil bien taillé pour lui.

Baptiste va-t-il remporter une victoire cette année?

Ci siamo guardati in faccia, in redazione, abbiamo fatto finta di valutare le alternative. Ma certe decisioni sono già prese prima ancora di iniziare a discuterne.

Dell’attualità ci interessa il giusto, lo sapete. Seguiamo quello che ci smuove qualcosa dentro. E quella domenica a Roubaix ci ha lasciato addosso troppo per far finta di niente. Ci siamo detti che un giorno, tra tanti anni, qualcuno prenderà in mano questo alvento e tornerà a quel pomeriggio. E ci è sembrato abbastanza. Ma forse era solo una buona scusa per dare forza a ciò che avevamo già deciso.

We looked at each other in the office, pretending to weigh the alternatives. But some decisions are made before the discussion even begins.

You know us – we care about current events only up to a point. We follow what stirs something inside us. And that Sunday in Roubaix left too much of a mark to ignore.
