black business insiders convention 2026. i went to the black business insiders convention today and it was so warm. i learned a lot, i saw a lot, and i met a lot of wonderful entrepreneurs and black business owners. i appreciate how black businesses come to life, the people behind them, the relationships, the creativity, the resilience they have. it got me thinking, what if there was a whole town like this?what if there was a whole state like this? what if this was a whole world? i love seeing black people being kind to each other, building together, creating opportunities, cheering each other on, and seeing ourselves represented and knowing we belong. i'm grateful to have been in a space where so many people were simply rooting for each other.

Protective Styles: Narratives on Black Hair Within Contemporary Art @artscouncilgbr Opening reception - Friday, Feb 2, 2024| 6-9pm w/ a special performance by @hello_alexandra Panel Discussion - Saturday, Feb 3, 2024 | 3-5pm Although it may be 2024, Black people continue to be targeted, interrogated, or even suspended from school based on how they wear their natural hair. This exhibition poses the question: How can Black people and people of color break the chains of which their hair is interrogated, and how can this be portrayed in contemporary art? Through photography, video, painting, mixed media installation, and spoken word, the featured artists in the exhibition answered this question with personal theories and interpretation of Blackness. They forge their own realities of how they perceive themselves and how they intend to be perceived. Not only is this a celebration of Black hair, but an exploration into the complex shared and contrasting narratives within the Black community and the diaspora.
