Since the very beginning, Pilchuck has been shaped by the many remarkable women that have worked, taught and created here. While often underrepresented and unacknowledged in the glass industry, women have made innumerable and essential contributions to glass and Pilchuck throughout history. From the trail-blazing Ruth Tamura who co-taught the first summer of Pilchuck workshops, to other artists instrumental to the American studio glass movement like Toots Zynsky, Ginny Ruffner and Sonja Blomdahl, women have and continue to make Pilchuck the magical and inspiring place it is.

Please enjoy these archival photos celebrating just a few of the many influential women that have made history here at Pilchuck.
