So... what exactly is DREGS!? The facts are simple: DREGS! is a quarterly comics magazine from Uncivilized Books, packed with short comics, ongoing series, articles, interviews, and work from exciting artists across indie and mainstream comics. But truly, what is it? It’s an attempt to fill a void that’s been growing in the comics marketplace for decades. Plenty of anthologies exist on the margins as DIY projects or Kickstarter campaigns, but most are one-off efforts or short-lived series with limited reach. We’re a long way from when publications like Métal Hurlant, Heavy Metal, Weirdo, MOME, RAW, Dark Horse Presents, PULP, and countless European and manga magazines were being published alongside each other. DREGS! is meant to bring some of that variety back: to expose readers to a huge range of approaches to comics and create space for new artists, ideas, and stories to develop. Anthologies are the dark matter of comics. Undervalued, they create space for things that might otherwise never exist. That’s a big part of why we started DREGS!. We’re talking 100+ pages of comics, in color and black & white, with artists like Suzanne Jana, Matias Bergara, Michael DeForge, James Romberger, Delfina Perez Adan, Richie Pope, Maxime Gérin, Ronald Wimberly, Emmanuel Lantam, and many more. Each issue also features a guest artist on the cover, along with an interview about their work and process. The idea is pretty simple: make a big, beautiful comics magazine that gives artists room to experiment, discover new readers, and just make some damn comics. And judging by the first 12 hours of this Kickstarter, it looks like some of you are into that idea. We’re already more than halfway to our goal. If you haven’t checked it out yet, now’s a good time. DREGS! #1 and #2 are launching on Kickstarter tomorrow! We’ve been working on this thing for a long time and we’re finally ready to leave it to you for the next step. DREGS! is a new quarterly Science Fiction and Fantasy comics magazine featuring short comics and continuing series from a bunch of incredible artists from around the world. Each of the first two issues are 100 pages, packed with comics, and we’ve got some really exciting stuff in there from Matias Bergara, Michael DeForge, Glowdark, Richie Pope, Maxime Gérin, James Romberger, Delfina Pérez Adan, Al Gofa, Tom Neely, Keenan Marshall Keller, Suzanne Jana, Jean-Marc Ah-Sen, Tom Kaczynski, Ronald Wimberly, Gyimah Gariba, Tim Peacock, Emmanuel Lantam, Ylang Lebot, Kevin Catalan and Jake Zawlacki We are really excited to launch the Kickstarter tomorrow, September 25!
