Which is your favorite song off my most recent album DIÁSPORA? I love this record so much…this journey began in 2020, the height of the pandemic when my confinement turned into an obsession with Brazilian 70’s music while cleaning 😂. Little did I know, I’d be chasing this feeling for the next 4 years and create a bridge to my own identity.

Growing up, being mixed race in Germany meant constant re-shaping where I belonged. Not because I felt lost - but because society finds it so hard to place you. It took me 30+ to realize that my “culture” was that very experience - a shared one - of Black people around the world. Displaced, but forming new bonds, new subcultures, new music. From this perspective, the origins of Funk were no different than those of Samba, or my own for that matter.

Once my travels through South America unveiled this, DIÁSPORA as a title became the only logical choice. My love for Disco, Soul, Bossa Nova, Afro-Beat…it wasn’t random at all. It was me paying homage to the joy that STILL came from our hardships. From our complex backgrounds and loss of identity, came an even more beautiful expression that unites us all.

Thank you for listening - it’s been quite a challenge to get this album made, but it felt so right and I couldn’t be more proud.

Again. If the Latina women here, especially internationally based, have always had one opinion on language with my work, that being that “concern” isn’t factored to me at all as well as that, vocally, there’s nonexistent connection to them emotionally in my expression.

My own priority with it is that any “answers” one finds in it, doesn’t ever come from me. One on one or not, on or offline. And literally so too. Everyone here shouldn’t have had to know they weren’t even involved at all. I’m not everyone here.
