POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

From anchoring sets across every genre in the region for over a decade to leading his own multi-piece “Extravagant Superband,” William Johnston is the definition of a Bay Area scene mainstay.

Ahead of the San Francisco Public Library’s Bay Beats Bandshell party—Bay Beats’ biggest event of the year—we sat down with William to talk about his evolution from ultimate sideman to bandleader, honoring local scene legends like Anthony Ant, and the raw dedication it takes to build big ensembles in one of the most expensive regions in the world.

Swipe through to read a few of our favorite moments from the conversation.

🔗 Catch the full, unedited interview at the link in our bio, and don’t miss William Johnston’s set at the Bay Beats Bandshell party!
