POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

29 years ago in NYC, the great pianist Junior Mance told me to focus on the blues. "You gotta go back to the beginning and get that swing from the blues before you can jump into all that post bop music you love so much. That's where Elvin, Wayne, Reggie, and Coltrane and them started. You can't skip the foundation in jazz if you want to build off it." I still think about Junior and what he said till this day. Life lessons from the masters.

Lemme tell y’all sum: THIS WAS THE BEST JAZZ CAMP EVER! I made so many new friends this year and lawd have mercy are they talented. We were killing it on stage sounding like Chad LB and Wayne Shorter and off the stage when we were recognizing sequences, going through the circle of fourths in the recording studio, when Skylar ripped his shirt on the stairwell, and when he was watching TikToks at full volume in the cafeteria (not so peak+cinema+analysis) I love you guys so much, especially Sabina, Maya, Anna, Madeline, Ben, Kyle, Bastien, Skylar, Lennon, Pops, Paul/Carmichael, and Corwith for making my time here filled with beautiful music and irreplaceable memories. To the incredible faculty and staff at Loyola such as Dr Mingledorff, Dr Towell, Wes Anderson, Nick Volz, John Mahoney, Adam Bock, and countless others, I am so grateful for your hard work in making this experience possible for young musicians like myself. The faculty performances were awe inspiring, and I’ve learned so much about music and myself in these past four days. Thank you to the sNoBalls organization run by Marcia Arceneaux for awarding me this generous scholarship to allow me to attend this wonderful event. I wish every year it could be longer, but the reason it’s so special is because wonderful things never last forever. I can’t wait until next year!! (Also see if yall can find Lennon) 🎷♥️ #music #saxophone #fyp #jazz #loyolaneworleans
