Gairloch, Pt 1 (landscape photos)

Nice to be back in Gairloch again. Just three nights but so many new places to explore and visit (and this time in a camper van). Amazing sunsets and the rainbow above the beach was far more striking than my picture could capture.

Just came out the cinema from seeing the excellent and life-affirming Everybody To Kenmure Street @kenmurestreet which I sincerely recommend to one and all, not just to see what happened that day in pollokshields but how it ties in with Glasgow's history of standing up to 'authority' and the powers that be when injustice is dished out.
Was a bonus joy to meet local force for good @tabassum_niamat who's interviewed throughout the film when we came outside and somehow managed to get this picture taken.
To rewind to the day of the event, I was actually there for a large part of it, purely by accident. I was on my way to my allotment at New Victoria Gardens when the first thing that struck me were the 20+ riot vans parked near Moyra Jane's cafe. As I walked toward and down Kenmure St i bumped into pals and hung about. It seemed like these were all my people and the cause was good. Watering the allotment could wait.
If I'd known this film was being made I might have submitted some of my own footage - I took a lot of pics and vids that day. Anyway, great to see this film being made about the day from the director of the equally excellent Nae Pasaran!
Spotted a lot of friendly faces in the footage and probably quite a lot more that I missed: @grimlusk @junkyard_dog_23 @lauramckmck (and @laurie_drums was that you in there too?) if you haven't seen the film go check it out.

Five cathartic days of tears and sweat in the city where it all began.
Grateful for the friends who became family, for the music that carries and heals us.
Less grateful for my lack of photo skills, but the memories are strong.
Love to all my Glasgow friends and beyond. ♾️

However you deal with menopause and perimenopause: it’s not a state of hormone deficiency and the distinction is important.

This is a transition to a stage we were supposed to be in.

That doesn’t mean you don’t need help.
That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t have access to hormone therapy or go on it.

I asked what you think about this and these were some of the comments.

Thank you to everyone who commented.

This transition can be a confusing time, it helps share, it helps to know that we’re in this together—because no one should have to walk this journey alone.

As we approach the darkest time of the year I felt compelled to share a little ray of light with you. ✨

The story is long but I'll try to keep it brief!

For the past 2 years I've had a foot in two menopause care camps: NHS and private. My intial appointment with a private clinic in 2021 was supposed to be a one off. However, it became apparent over time that I didn't absorb oestrogen well through my skin and while the private clinic was happy to support me, the NHS were not.

In June I was told by an NHS consultant that I would have to reduce my patch dose by half, to a level that I had been very unwell on. That I was at possible risk of VTE, breast and endometrial cancer. That my oestrogen level was too high. That if I continued to take the dose I am well on I would have to buy it privately.

I was really upset. What she said did not make sense. I knew from blood tests and crucially my symptoms that I didn't absorb oestrogen well but I felt she didn't believe me.

I spent the summer writing a 2000 word complaint to the NHS, arguing my case. As a woman, conditioned to acquiesce, to not make a fuss, this was not easy for me. But I couldn't let it go.

I submitted the complaint in September. Their response was to send me for a 2nd opinion from another consultant so I patiently waited until the end of November to be seen.

I was a nervous wreck going to the appointment but it went well. This doctor listened. She believed in the principle of individualised care. She did some blood tests and I waited.

This morning I got a call from her secretary to say the bloods were fine and the consultant is happy for me to continue on my current regime of 300 Evorel, Mirena and Testogel. I'm delighted!

At last, I'm starting to get back some faith in the NHS. That I do know my body. And most of all, I AM BELIEVED!

I shouldn't have had to do all the things I did to get to this point. I'm mindful that many women don't have the resources to fight this fight as I have.

But, today was a win. I feel vindicated. I wanted to share this as I know others are fighting similar battles. So ... do your research. Don't doubt yourself or your body. And don't back down! 🔥🔥🔥

'What I have observed is countless women on forums who are being under-prescribed and forced into private care as a result. She says there isn’t a shred of genuine evidence to support the use of high-dose oestrogen to manage significant depression. And yet … the very study she references to back up her warning on tachyphylaxis actually concluded that women with a history of PMS and severe depression were more likely to benefit from higher doses of oestrogen and may require higher doses to control their symptoms.'

Read my latest blog on yet another bogeyman in the world of HRT ... tachyphylaxis.
