It feels like summer ☀️ off the coast of Dana Point this week. Warm, clear water, bright sunshine, and dolphins gliding along the coast — conditions that feel more like mid-summer than early October.

With El Niño bringing warmer-than-usual ocean conditions, it’s been a beautiful time to be out on the water and watch the marine life moving through these unusually warm conditions. 🐬

Twice this week I saw Common dolphins while whale watching aboard @captdaveswhalewatching

There have been so many bottlenose dolphins cruising the waters off Laguna Beach, Dana Point, and San Clemente this past week! It’s always exciting to spot them, but watching them leap alongside the boat—and especially off the wake—is something truly special. 🐬💦

As we were returning from a whale-watching trip, we came across four young girls sitting on a paddle board bringing an injured gull to the Dana Point sheriffs Harbor Patrol dock. They were doing their best to help the bird and make sure it was safe.

We learned that the best place to bring an injured animal from the harbor was the Sheriff’s Harbor Patrol office, which handles incidents and wildlife injuries in the harbor. These young girls made sure the gull got there so it could receive the proper attention.

It was truly heartwarming to see four young people stop what they were doing to help an animal in need. ❤️ These are the moments that remind us how much kindness and compassion can make a difference.

Wetlands & Wildlife Care Center in Huntington Beach — this is a wildlife rehabilitation center that treats injured birds, including gulls. Their number is 714-374-5587.
