In our “LE Intro to Competition and Performance” class, we run a mock stage three times, with three slight changes to the stage each time, to introduce cops to the idea of “stage planning” and execution.

When you start shooting matches, keep your stage planning as simple as possible. Pick a route you think is most efficient, memorize it, and hammer alphas. 🤙🏽

The class “KEY LESSONS” video is on the YouTube channel. Check it out!

Moving and shooting is about a balance between three key pillars: stability, aggression, and preparation (of the gun).

You should be exploring how aggressive you can be with your movement while keeping the gun stable enough to put the rounds where you want to. Also, the sooner the gun is indexed on the target, the sooner you’ll be able to start collecting the information you need to start shooting. Keep in mind, MORE of one pillar might mean LESS of another…

Forward, rearward, lateral movement and everything in between… thinking about getting the most you can out of each pillar will help you figure out what you’re really capable of. 👊🏽

Visual processing is what shooting is all about. Generally speaking, once you’re gripping the gun the way you should, you’ll find you need much less information from your sights than you think to hammer shots where you want them to go.

We keep this block super simple in all of our classes, to include “LE Intro to Competition and Performance.”

The “Progressive Return” drill - a @hkimshooting special - is how we like to test the DURABILITY of our grip. Pay attention to possible grip pressure changes (and what that looks like on the target) and be ready to admit when your eyes latch onto the red dot mid-shot string (and what THAT looks like on the target).

You know what to do… peep the class on the YouTube channel! Link’s in the bio. 📺

“Single Doubles” have turned out to be one of the best ways to show folks how to bridge the gap between accuracy and speed. The “single” is a pre-test. The “double” is THE test, at speed.

For more on exactly what to look and feel for when running “single doubles,” peep the “LE Intro to Competition and Performance KEY LESSONS” class on the YouTube channel.

Most gun-carriers - cops especially - don’t like the word “exploration,” because it implies TIME. We get it, and we’ve been there.

To get good at this stuff, it’s going to take some time, but once you understand exactly what to look for when you train, you’ll find it’ll take considerably less time than you think to become really fast and accurate.

It all starts with your eyes and hands. For more on what we’re talking about, you know what to do… hit up the “LE Intro to Competition and Performance KEY LESSONS” video on the YouTubes. Links in the bio. 👊🏽

Don’t overcomplicate what to do with your legs and feet!👇🏽

Developing a good shooting stance should be about working to achieve two things: MOBILITY and STABILITY on the gun. Just like working to see the spot you want the bullets to go to and gripping the gun so that it behaves predictably, mobility and stability are the two key principles of an effective stance.

For more on how your stance affects shooting and moving, check out the “LE Intro to Competition and Performance KEY LESSONS” video on our YouTube!
