Join a new group penpal project meeting once a month to write letters to incarcerated LGBTQ+ people 💌

@powerblossoms is an abolitionist organization bringing together queer and trans people on both sides of prison walls in the fight against hierarchies and State oppression.

For incarcerated trans and queer people, penpal correspondence is often the only connection they have to people on the outside. LGBTQ+ people also face increased isolation within prisons—such as being placed in solitary confinement “for their own protection.” This makes having outside support such as these penpods all the more important.

🗓 Wednesday, October 21st, 6-7PM
📍312 S Myrtle Ave, Monrovia

A gathering of abolitionists to fill commissaries for siblings currently facing oppression and abuse inside Twin Towers Jail and also to support Annie Jump, a trans rights advocate who has a trial pending for two felony charges and one misdemeanor charge all because she acted in self defense.

Come together to share food, stories, arts, music, and poignant and courageous words!!!

Your local poet is clocked-in writing birthday cards for @powerblossoms — an abolitionist organization dedicated to supporting incarcerated BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ individuals! If you’ve got five minutes to spare, help us remind those who are incarcerated that they are more than just a number in our justice/corrections system!

Wearing my #crescentcity tee and just absolutely book nerded out with my pen pal.

Turns out they love #ACOTAR and @sarahjmaas as much as I do. They also aspire to write fantasy novels!

If anyone is interested in the program I’m volunteering with, it’s called @powerblossoms

“Based in Southern California, Power Blossoms is an abolitionist organization bringing together queer and trans people on both sides of prison walls in the fight against hierarchies and State oppression.”

You do not have to be queer or trans to have a pen pal, allies are welcome! I hope that some more awesome people will sign up for this! 🌈
