As a healthcare provider who has attended every congressional Medicare for All hearing since 2019, I’ve watched it move from the political margins into the mainstream.

A national poll found 65% support for Medicare for All, as employer healthcare costs are projected to exceed $19,000 per employee in 2027.

The tide isn’t turning. It has turned. Medicare for all has mainstreamed and we aren’t turning back.

This Freedom Friday, we’re talking about Detroit, 2012. Michigan’s emergency manager law let the governor hand one person the power to overrule the mayor and city council, and about half of all Black Michiganders ended up living under it.

Organizers gathered over two hundred thousand signatures to repeal it. The state tried to kill the petition over the size of the font. Voters repealed it anyway, and six weeks later the legislature passed it again.

So in 2018, organizers stopped writing laws and wrote the “right to vote” into the state constitution. A legislature can repeal a law. It cannot repeal the constitution.

Big corporations make billions while paying workers so little that many still need public assistance to afford food, healthcare, and housing.

Think about it. Taxpayers help subsidize poverty wages while corporations and shareholders pocket the profits.

If corporations can afford billions in profits, they can afford to pay a living wage.

It’s time for corporations to pick up the tab — not taxpayers.

BGE made more than HALF A BILLION dollars last year and is still asking customers for even more. Pepco has already been granted tens of millions in additional revenue. Meanwhile, working people are being told to somehow absorb the cost. ENOUGH.

Clean energy means nothing if people can’t afford to keep the lights on. We confronted the people with the power to stop these increases because Marylanders deserve affordable energy, real accountability, and a system that puts people before profit.

We took the fight straight into the room!!!

While BGE executives and regulators talked about the “future” of energy, we made sure they heard about the reality happening right now: bills are climbing, families are stretched thin, and utility companies are still asking for more. We disrupted the panel because people paying these bills deserve more than promises and industry talking points. They deserve affordable energy, accountability, and a system that puts people before profit. This is what it looks like when we refuse to be ignored.

If you’re with us, sign up to attend our Affordable Energy Now! Meeting on 10/21, link in bio!

🛑 STOP THE RATE HIKES! AFFORDABLE ENERGY NOW!

Today, we took action outside the Maryland Clean Energy Conference to demand that BGE STOP THE RATE HIKES!

While BGE CEO Tamla Olivier and Maryland Public Service Commission Commissioner Odogwu Obi Linton discussed the future of energy inside, we disrupted their panel on AI & Utilities plus rallied outside to demand answers about skyrocketing bills, corporate profits, and who’s being forced to foot the bill for massive energy infrastructure investments.

BGE is seeking another $156 MILLION rate increase while working families are already struggling to afford basic necessities. We say enough is enough.

⚡ Energy is a necessity, not a luxury. Maryland families deserve affordable energy NOW!

The Alliance for Housing Justice steering committee ( @aforhj @clasp_dc @lawyerscomm @libgen_econ @popdemoc @pplsaction @publicadvocates) came together in Los Angeles to reflect, recharge, and plan as AHJ enters its 10th year. 🏠

This year, AHJ and 13 partners helped about 20,000 people tell HUD to keep mixed-status families together. Five months later, the rule still isn’t final, and those families are still home.

Now we’re getting ready for whatever comes next: planning for how we build a federal housing system that puts people first. 💪

The attacks keep coming, and so do we.

We have come a long way since the launch of the Clearview ID. Our story has gained traction and the document holder is On sale at Etsy & Walmart! But we still are in need of investors or corporate sponsors to mass produce and expand. Share with someone you know who would be interested in spreading the word with the potential to save lives. #mominvention #trafficstops #driversafety #bethechange #bettertogether
