What happens to nature as a city continues to grow?

For artist Pratap Manna (@pratapmanna90), the changing landscape of Kolkata is a starting point for exploring urbanisation, ecological resilience, and our relationship with the natural world.

Working with watercolour, charcoal, and ink, Pratap creates intricate compositions where architectural structures meet vegetation. Trees emerge from abandoned buildings, greenery spreads across neglected spaces, and nature finds ways to persist within the expanding city.

His contemporary art practice also reflects on memory, belonging, and the responsibility of nurturing the world we leave behind.

Born in Kolkata in 1992, Pratap holds BFA and MFA degrees from Rabindra Bharati University. His work has been exhibited at the 64th National Art Exhibition of Lalit Kala Akademi, CIMA Art Gallery, and other art spaces.

This contemporary artwork captures dawn at the Ganges, where Varanasi’s ghats, boats and seagulls create a quiet rhythm across the water.

Muted blue-grey tones, bold brushstrokes and spatula work bring movement to the scene, reflecting a fleeting moment of wonder.✨

This conceptual artwork explores what it means to choose and protect human connection in a world shaped by algorithms, distraction, and endless alternatives.

Through symbolism and semi-abstract forms, the painting presents intimacy not as romance, but as a deliberate act of staying connected. ✨

This contemporary artwork draws from Manikarnika Ghat, using thick, broken layers of Yellow Ochre to evoke the weathered texture of ancient stone.

What happens when a changing city makes you think about the future? 🌿

For Pratap Manna (@pratapmanna90), Kolkata’s transformation becomes a way to think about nature, memory, responsibility, and what we leave behind.

His practice brings architecture and organic growth into the same imagined spaces - shaped by an increasingly personal understanding of care and continuity.

A RAD100 selected artist whose paintings ask us to look at the relationship between what we build and what we nurture.✨

Cultivate Art presents the inaugural edition of Instinctively Many: A Cultivated Salon, bringing together 22 artists from across India within the courtyards of the Kanoria Centre for Arts (KCA), Ahmedabad.

Instinct arrives before language does: the hand choosing a mark, a colour, a form before thought has caught up enough to explain it. What’s rare now isn’t instinct itself, but anything reaching us before it’s already been interpreted for us.

Instinctively Many takes its name from that narrowing gap: a small, deliberate return to the moment before interpretation arrives first. It unfolds through multiplicity, a plural, unruly artistic spirit that fits neither the minimal white cube nor the internet’s flattened notion of contemporary.
