I’ve been sitting with my @culturecon experience for a few days now, trying to figure out how I wanted to share it. Because when I say it wasn’t what I expected, I mean that in more ways than one 👀

Allow me to walk you through my exhibition 🖼️

A little backstory: I discovered CultureCon through their first CultureCon at Home event in 2021. Attended ATL in 2022 and even bought a ticket for NYC that fall. Then I found out I was pregnant, so those plans changed. Four years later, I finally made it to the NYC experience with my newfound cousin! (A storytime for a different day).

I came for the creativity, inspiration, connections, and of course, the FASHIONNNN 😂

Black isn’t a monolith, and this was a beautiful reminder of that. 🖤 Different styles, personalities, interests, and expressions of creativity all in one space. We were literally walking art exhibits, admiring and appreciating one another. I loved that!

I haven’t been in my full-time professional creative bag since 2022, so putting my CultureCon looks together was a chance to flex some muscles I hadn’t used in a while. And the love I received?! 🥹 It felt good to experiment, have fun, and revisit styling— an industry I planned to advance in.

And then there were the moments I couldn’t have planned if I tried!

From meeting folks while waiting on the bus to CultureCon to conversations that felt like they happened at just the right time. I kept finding myself in unexpected situations. Some encounters really do have God’s fingerprints all over them 🙏🏾

Funny enough, several people were surprised I’d traveled to NYC for CultureCon. Apparently, a lot of folks were local! 😂

But that’s exactly why I came. There’s something different about being in the room, having face-to-face conversations, and making connections beyond a screen. I met some incredible people, and I’m looking forward to seeing what we might create together!

Between the Braindate I attended, panels, conversations, and everything in between, I had plenty to think about.

My cousin and I even found ourselves exploring different sides of the creative world. Me with styling, film, and television. Her with books and publishing.

Same event.
