(3/3) But I’m taking steps forward. I have goals. I want to restore my dental health, reconnect with resources, and continue moving toward stability.

And now I understand something I didn’t before.

I didn’t understand what Bridge to Home meant before. But now I do. It’s a bridge not just to shelter, but to housing, to the next step, to something better.

My story is still being written.

But today, I have a place to breathe and a path forward.

(2/3) At first, I stayed with friends. Eventually those options ran out, and I found myself living out of my car.

People think homelessness is simple. But until you’ve been out there, you don’t realize how different everything becomes. Your whole life revolves around basic things, where you can wash your hands, where you can go, how you get from place to place.

Homelessness isn’t just about not having a home. It changes how you move through the world. Things that once felt normal suddenly become uncertain.

Even through it all, I tried to keep perspective.

I’ve been very fortunate. I don’t feel like, poor me. I know there are people who have it much harder.

Still, I knew I needed more than survival. I needed a place to begin again.

That place became Bridge to Home.

I had heard about Bridge to Home years earlier from my mother. When I finally applied and was accepted, I was given something I hadn’t had in a long time, stability.

This place… it’s incredible. They ask you to be respectful and follow the rules, but what stands out most is the staff. They care. It matters to them. It’s not just a job.

At Bridge to Home, I found more than shelter. I found meals, showers, resources, and something I didn’t realize I had been missing space to breathe.

It’s a place where you can breathe again. There’s food, there are computers, there are people who can help. It gives you the space to figure things out again.

One of the hardest things for me hasn’t been helping other people it’s been helping myself.

I can help other people all day long. But when it comes to me, I just… stop. I don’t know why.

(1/3) I never imagined I would experience homelessness. I grew up right here in Santa Clarita as one of five siblings. My life was centered around education, helping others, and building a future I was proud of. I graduated from Canyon High School, earned my degree as a physical therapy assistant at Pierce College, and later continued my education at Pepperdine studying sports medicine.

But life doesn’t always go the way you planned.

After being hit by a drunk driver while riding on the back of a motorcycle, everything shifted. I still held my certifications, but the path I had worked so hard to build started to change. Years later, after losing both of my parents who I had cared for I found myself facing something I never expected.

I came back to take care of my mom. It just made sense. But when she passed… I had nowhere to go.

Mens Conference 2026 🛠

Thank you to all the men who came out and made the day such a success! We experienced great worship, teaching, community, and encouragement to prayerfully seek out and be obedient to God's call in our lives. We were also reminded about the once and for all gracious work of Jesus on our behalf, giving us the most powerful reason for the ongoing work of living for God's glory. 🙌

To continue growing in your faith and studying the Bible alongside other men, you can visit www.valenciahills.com/men to find ongoing weekly gatherings. Stay tuned for more Mens events coming in Fall!
