POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

When I say Ive been putting on for our scene for 20 years.... When I say I helped build this ecosystem that exists now...the proof is the bricks that were laid and stand to this day. And I want to make sure the newest generation understands history.

In 2001, I came up with the idea for The Mississippi Artists & Producers Coalition with @tonyb601 @aziatikkblakk and the OG Donnie Money. Folks say Mississippi has never been "united". But for a few years 20 years ago...we were almost there.

The organization was an LLC. Members paid dues. We had regular meetings where we had industry guests come and speak to artists. We became such a force that we actually became a voting block. We actually got both Frank Melton and Harvey Johnson to have a Mayoral Forum IN THE BIRDLAND. #unprecedented. We had chapters in Hattiesburg (led by @babiboipromotions) and the Delta (led by @biggvradio) and they had their own meetings and events. We even chartered a bus to and paid for rooms at the first Ozone Awards! (Which member dues also paid for)

In 2005 We produced 2 compilation albums MAP Coalition volume 1 & 2. THAT WE AS AN ORGANIZATION PAID FOR WITH DUES FROM THE MEMBERS! Volume 1 was helmed and engineered by @eddiewrightbbq and Volume 2 was engineered by @prep601 Each Coalition member got their own box of CD's to sell as they saw fit and keep the all the proceeds. We had plans to turn MAP into a label and were working getting health insurance for Indie artists.

We had cats who had REAL beef on the same songs...on the same mixtape...all on ONE mission. We allllllllllllmost won.. We had the idea. We executed the idea. But the usual jealousy and negative energy killed it! I didnt have the leadership chops then I have now and I let the negativity win. But...it proves what CAN be done. And Im here if anyone wants to try this again.

I have bled, sweated, and sacrificed for Mississippi...trying to create a sustainable ecosystem here. And Im proud to see whats happening now. @itsmeezynow & @twaplaya took this formula and made magic with it. Theyve taken it farther than we did.

WE ARE STRONGER TOGETHER! TAG THESE FOLKS IF YOU RECOGNIZE SOME OF THESE FACES!

💜👟🎶 COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT: OUR 3 MEMORIAL FOUNDATION & DANIELLE LEVERETT-GALLASPY 🎶👟💜

There are organizations that show up...

And then there are organizations that change what showing up looks like.

That's why We Lit has so much love for Danielle Leverett-Gallaspy and the incredible team at Our 3 Memorial Foundation. 💜

Their mission is bigger than awareness. They are creating safe spaces, educating communities, advocating for survivors of intimate partner violence, and reminding people they are never alone.

Need proof? Their Soles for Survivors campaign set a goal of 500 pairs of shoes...

The community answered with 1,009 pairs. 👏🏾💜

That's what happens when purpose meets people.

Now it's our turn.

This year, the BAC Musicians Art Market isn't just about discovering your next favorite artist, buying original artwork, hearing incredible live performances, or catching our surprise Tiny Desk-style sessions.

It's also about showing what community looks like.

👟 BAC is officially a host site for the Our 3 Memorial Foundation Shoe Drive!

So when you come experience Jackson's creative community...

🎤 Bring your talent. 🎨 Support local artists. 🖼️ Collect original art. 👟 And bring a gently used or new pair of shoes to help someone take their next step forward.

Because that's what Art With the Old, In With the New has always been about.

Taking something you no longer need...

...and helping create hope for someone else. ❤️

Even better, we're excited to celebrate our fellow host sites joining the movement beginning Monday, August 3rd! 🎉

📍 End of All Music Jxn 📍 Swell-O-Phonic 📍 Conkrete Sneaker Boutique

And Danielle... you already know I had to set a goal. 😂

Last year the community collected 1,009 pairs.

This year I'm dreaming BIG... 3,000 pairs! 😅💜

Y'all... help me out! Let's see what happens when artists, music lovers, sneakerheads, nonprofits, and neighbors all decide to move with purpose.

Because every pair tells someone:

You matter.

See y'all at the BAC Musicians Art
