Yesterday was one of those favorite days. 14 hours in the studio working on current and future projects. Nothing beats a day of music like that. Huge love and gratitude to @mcnastyici for the engineering help and providing the studio and atmosphere. And for introducing me to the hardest Hard Rock record I’ve heard in awhile. Look out for this music and more via @magneticrecordings

Final-Boss level record collector @fosdave is dropping in to Liverpool Soul Weekender next week to hang out and spin a few šŸ© Get on this one! What can you say after 30 years of collecting records and djing? David Haffner is attracted to the underplayed, underrated, and undiscovered nooks and crannies of the record world - when he plays records, people listen. Along the way, he’s popularized a few records and broken them on various scenes.
Beginning from a Golden-era 90s Hip-Hop perspective, refined in the Deep Funk 45 culture of the 90s, steeped in rare Soul, Boogie, and Disco, and ultimately set in the subsequent years of opening and operating one of US’s premier all vinyl record shops, @friendsofsoundsa . Haffner’s distinct style champions good music of all-time, incorporating equal parts songs you know
already, songs that you feel like you know, and songs you’ve never heard before.
Owner of the music licensing company @magneticrecordings, he’s been involved in well over 150 reissue projects - scouring the US to find the original musicians, secure rights, and shepherd projects onto his own label, @preservationproject, and well regarded labels like @lightintheatticrecords, @athens_of_the_north , @thenumerogroup , @truthandsoulrecords , @bbemusic , @jazzmanrecords , @bigcrownrecords , and others.
In 2019 he released his first namesake compilation, entitled ā€œDisco With A Feelingā€
, on Athens Of The North - which has sold over 3,000 copies and been repressed 3 times. He is currently working on a follow-up to that release and a series of Gospel compilations with Greg Belson.
Not a stranger to the Rare Soul scene in the UK and Europe, he’s been invited to Seattle and Bamberg multiple times and shared the decks with the likes of Soul Sam, Butch, Dave Thorley, Johan Tollgerdt, Lars Bulnheim, and George Mahood - amongst others. Nothing brings him more joy than an event like The Liverpool Soul Weekender, where people’s ears are open to obscure and new sounds from across the Soul spectrum and are ready to enjoy and dance to them. #tufflovesoulclub #liverpoolsoulweekender #raresoul #crossoversoul #modernsoul #northernsoul #sweetsoul #boogie #funk #gospel #disco

Got Tapes!?

The tapeography is looking kinda hefty. I've dropped a lot of tapes amd introduced a lot of music (new and old), from deep digs and breaks, to newly released and introducing to the world for the first time. Label and artist spotlights and all with themes.

Hopefully labels and artists have appreciated the work that I've put in #MakingAndBreakingRecords these records both reviewing on Nostalgia King and on these tapes during a time where media outlets for independent labels and artists is almost non existent.

Recent find for me, an unreleased Disco acetate from parts unknown. I’m digging deep into my stuff to try to bring a few Disco records that @replay365 and @djharrya haven’t heard, two of the dopest deepest Disco heads in the world.

We are going back-to-back-to-back to close out the night at the @lasvegasgriffin this Friday with the @sundownsoulclublv. @mcnastyici, @ari843652dai, @doublepeas, and @sin_city_soul_ have been gracious enough to invite me to play.

It is free. It starts at 9:15pm and goes until 2am. I guarantee it will be the best vinyl(and acetate) dance party in Las Vegas Friday night. Hope to see you there with everyone.
