I’ve seen a lot of “fashion people don’t even take the subway!” discourse over the last couple of days since the Chanel Métiers d’Art show in the Bowery St station, and I just have to say: That is NOT true!

There are a lot of valid critiques to be made about the show, including the specific location (a station that is notorious for heartwrenching scenes of addiction and homelessness), and the casting, which I don’t believe celebrated the beautiful diversity of NYC as well as it should have, but the idea that capital F-Fashion and the subway don’t mix isn’t one, IMO.

Over the years, I’ve personally seen rare runway couture, jewels, incredibly expensive handbags, and just LOOKS galore on the subway, and worn many OTT fits on it myself (just sometimes obscured by a big subway shirt or a long coat if the look was too skimpy or delicate to comfortably wear for the full ride). New Yorkers who know this city know that the train is often the best way to get somewhere, which is why you’ll even spot celebrities and business people who could absolutely afford 24/7 car service riding it. Matthieu Blazy spoke to this himself, and I do think it is part of the magic of this city. There were some absolutely stunning designs too, and to me they don’t seem out of place on a train car or a subway platform (but definitely on that one!)

(P.S. I actually first posted this back in September on the clock app after overhearing a similar assertion at NYFW, so just know this topic is one I’m passionate about in general lol)

For a night under the Eiffel Tower at #ParisFashionWeek, I styled my look with statement accessories by Alexis Bittar, the Brooklyn-born designer renowned for transforming jewelry into art through hand-carved Lucite, molten metals, and a fearless, avant-garde approach since the ‘90s.

The showstopper? The Scissor Clutch in black, blending smooth full-grain Italian leather, hand-sculpted clear Lucite, and 14k gold-plated molten metal scissors for a surrealist twist on ‘80s glam. A detachable 14k gold-plated snake chain allows it to double as a shoulder bag—but for Paris, I let it shine as a clutch.

On my wrist, the Large Molten Hinged Cuff in gold, crafted from 14k gold-plated brass with a softly curved interior and hinge for a comfort fit that makes a bold yet wearable statement.

And for the finishing touch: the Liquid Lucite Ripple Drop Earrings, hand-carved and polished in Brooklyn from clear Lucite, suspended from 14k gold-plated molten metalwork. Each watery curve reflects the Paris lights, creating an effortless shimmer with every move.
