POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

I’ve been very bad at the social media part of cartooning lately but very good at the making stuff part. Many things are coming soon!

In the meantime, I’m beyond delighted that I will be tabling at @prettygoodfest this Saturday. I will have lots of paper flowers to give out, and, with the riso gods permitting, a new fully papercut mini-comic printed by the lovely @christophergoblin . Excited to see many of you there.

This Saturday October 24th from 11AM-6PM at the @chicagoathletichotel is @prettygoodfest, and on the 2nd floor between the game room and drawing room you can see my sculptures Meow Meow Press which features my 4 favorite cat friends and a 1:1 scale realistic Risograph in the display case! They are all made out of cardboard and print scraps.

I will be tabling at the fest too with A NEW POETRY ZINE published by yours truly @reeso.press, come say hi and also see the amazing list of special guests such as Chris ware, Tara Booth, Micheal Deforge, which I will be quaking in my boots and try not to cry seeing them lmao.

Thank you @prettygoodfest @perfectlyacceptable and @chicagoathletichotel for letting me make these special sculptures!

See you all on Saturday! :)

Each month Sixty editors and our friends at @visualistgo curate Art Picks: a calendar of the art exhibitions, talks, screenings, and community events across Chicago and the Midwest we think you should know about. Check out what's happening in your area this month at the link in our bio!

@visualistgo is an archive of all things related to the practice and purpose of visual arts in Chicago and anywhere Chicagoans happen to be.

•••

This month's featured artist is na forest lim. na forest lim (they/them) is an autistic, queer, and trans artist, film director, and photojournalist from South Korea. They practice sustainable poetic living in Waawiyaatanong and use visual storytelling to tenderly lift up the resilience of marginalized individuals and communities.

Forest's photo for this month's Art Picks is from a series of photographs featuring Iman Payne, a Black queer farmer based in Detroit. In forest’s words: “Black farmers have faced systemic discrimination and violence, which forced many to lose their land or relinquish ownership, leading to a decline in Black-owned farms. Some shifted to sharecropping, while others moved to cities like Detroit in search of better opportunities. Today, efforts continue to reclaim land and advocate for Black farmers’ rights.”

A warm light illuminates one hand with a green ring, while the other hand is hidden in shadows cast by the light. Photo by na forest lim. Save the date. October 22nd. Michael Deforge and Abe Lampert at Howling Pages!!

We are so excited to host Michael DeForge (@michaeldeforgecomics) for a comics reading and picture show from his latest book, All Cameras In My Room, out now from @drawnandquarterly. Michael will be joined by Abe Lampert (@abe_lampert) whose new book Nemesis Encounter from @perfectlyacceptable is out now.

This is a joint venture with @prettygoodfest to kick off what is bound to be their best comics and small press fair yet (Oct 24 at the Chicago Athletic Assoc).

But the Thursday prior, Oct 22nd, we're on deck. So come see comics on the big screen and hear from a couple authors. We'll have seats for all and books from the authors for sale after the reading that they'll be signing. And as always, drinks on us.

Resist the algorithm.
