2

2016 was a year of building—sometimes all at once, sometimes at the expense of rest, and often without realizing how foundational it would be.

That year, I was in my twelfth year of business, and Urbane Design was still actively evolving. We remodeled homes, styled and photographed finished projects (including one that became our most-pinned image on Pinterest), partnered with @prettykennels for @barkitecture_austin , hosted our first annual SXSW party raising money for Habitat for Humanity @atxhabitat, and bought a house of our own—continuing to say yes to meaningful work and milestones, even when our own home remodel took a back seat.

In between projects, life was full:
Travel with friends, bridal showers, bachelor/bachelorette parties, officiating a wedding (grill and all), celebrating babies and milestones, getting engaged after 8 years together—and pulling off our own wedding after our original venue cancelled just two weeks before the big day.

There was joy, loss, creativity, chaos, and growth packed into one year.

Looking back, 2016 wasn’t just busy.
It was foundational.
And so much of what Urbane Design is today was shaped in that season—whether I realized it then or not.
