“A gay man” got to watch his favorite artists launch their new tour celebrating 20 years of their monumental album that came to him at a time when he needed it most.

I wish I could go back and give that scared, closeted boy a hug and tell him in 20 years he’d get to throw on some rhinestones, twirl, and sing these lyrics from the FRONT ROW (☠️) without shame or embarrassment of what anyone else thought of him.

Thank you @bradrodell for the invite, and thank you @thechicks for creating some of the most incredible music that shows just how universal being told to “shut up & sing” can really feel.

It was a night I’ll never forget ❤️🐥

So… we made a magazine! 🥹

After 33 years as a newspaper, Between The Lines is now a monthly magazine, and our first glossy issue is officially here. Like, you can hold it. It’s real.

I’m so proud of this one. When I was a newly out kid from Canton, I picked up a copy of BTL at the Plymouth Coffee Bean. I don’t remember what was on the cover. What I remember is seeing Pride photos, queer celebrities and gay-owned businesses in the ads — and realizing there were people like me. You don’t forget that feeling.

Fast-forward 20 years and I’ve now spent half my life with this paper. Er, magazine. Still getting used to that.

I’ve always loved magazines. Growing up, I’d pore over them cover to cover and collect Entertainment Weeklys like they were precious artifacts because I couldn’t bear to throw them away. (Sorry, Mom, about all that clutter.) So getting to help bring BTL into this next chapter feels a little surreal. And honestly, it’s something I’ve wanted for a long time.

The coolest part is that the reason we do this hasn’t changed. There’s still some kid out there looking for proof they’re not the only one.

I found that in these pages. Now we get to make it bigger.

Read my full letter from the editor in our
inaugural issue. 💙
