Spotted gum deck

Insane transformation to this backyard! Now a functional outdoor entertainment area and designed to last the test of time.

The hardwood adds warmth and character to a home and keeping the earthy look and feel! A hardwood deck is a far better choice over a plastic alternative as it’s more sustainable and durable,

Composite for a premium board will cost far more then gorgeous hardwood and still not look the same plus utilise a tiny clip system which isn’t actually durable, the new marketing strategy of zero maintenance is a load of horse dung. To oil a deck is an hour or so once a year, it actually makes you appreciate the investment in the first place and make your house a home!

Why choose a Hardwood deck?

- Much more premium compared to composite counterparts
- Extremely durable
- Stronger structural feel
- Handles heat better

Common misconceptions are hardwood won’t last. Ferry wharfs, homes next to the water, dry brutal country all use hardwood decks and they last ages! A deck should add value to the home not detract! A car needs Maintenance so does anything, one lot of oiling every 12-18 months ensures your deck is healthy and will stand the test of time! All homes need regular maintenance, a garden requires maintenance, a deck is the same, one day once a year to be outside in the beautiful sun getting your vitamin D and enjoying your investment is worth it ten fold.

Sans Souci Project

Wrapping up this beautiful job at Sans Souci!

The project breakdown,

- Full demolition of the original deck and balusters
- Laying @meyer.timber h4 joists
- Installing the gorgeous blackbutt decking @gftimber
- Demolition of the existing awning
- Erecting the LVL frame of the awning
- Lining it with VJ boards
- Covering the roof with insulation blanket and colorbond roofing
- Install the new handrails
- Wrapping the awning with an original style guttering to match the existing

Many more things to list about what went into this project, a key focus on the minor details that help the job pop, same screw lines, gaps between railing etc!

The clients wanted to see how to make the space feel more open and inviting whilst maintaining privacy, the choice of the wide boards draw on this. Having the stairs open inline with the front door make the home feel inviting and having a wider set of stairs help with the style of the home whilst also providing a more modern feel!

Overall so stoked on how the project came together and so happy to see the clients reactions to the finished product. The satisfaction of building a clients dream into a reality is truly amazing!
