JULAI moves through Australia’s music landscape with a grounded, intentional presence, shaped by years of learning how to hold space through movement and voice.

A proud, Queer Pasifika fa’afafine artist, he draws from his Samoan heritage, Ballroom, and chosen family to create music that serves as both a documentation and celebration of life. His work carries the weight of community and the shimmer of self determination in the energy that surrounds the spaces he has helped build.

Ballroom is where JULAI’s artistic language was first forged. Years within the scene refined his sense of presence - precise, unapologetic, and charged with collective spirit. His ballroom background and dance training gives him a performer‑first instinct, allowing him to enter music and rap with a fluidity and command developed long before the mic was in the picture. Not to mention a childhood soundtracked by 90s female rap and RnB. Onstage, he folds movement, voice, and community engagement into a singular experience. As the founder of The Kiki House of DIESEL (@_houseofdiesel_ ), founded in 2023, this practice has become a cornerstone of his creative world and the anchor of his stage decorum.

He’s supported Cakes Da Killa, Mykki Blanco, VVPete, Jamaica Moana, and Pania to name a few, and festival appearances at Dark Mofo, Gay Times, Perth Festival, Midsumma and Sydney’s Gay Lesiban Mardi Gras. These performances grew his reputation for live sets that are dynamic, often supported by choreography and dance provided by his ballroom family who become part of the live dialogue and story told on stage. They also drew attention from Complex, ACCLAIM, triple J, Astrophe Magazine, Converse and others, positioning him as a distinct voice within Australia’s evolving club rap movement.

JULAI’s work is a universal offering. Shaped by strong family bonds, Pasifika storytelling, and self empowerment through music, his dynamic take on music places him at the forefront of new emerging artists in Australia. His voice is grounded and his vision is unapologetic, opening space for those who walk the same path and keep creating in spite of the structures built to hold them back.

Curated by a grassroots group of BIPOC and queer young people, this event will be featuring some of Naarm’s best underground artists. Including ballroom Icon and live artist, Julai, from @_houseofdiesel_ who will be joined by a lineup of incredible DJs: Brown Suga Princess, Girl Whatever, Primary Thug and CTRL-V.

There will also be:
Henna by @natasha.tareen and custom Screen Printed shirts by @miramiramiart

⋆⊱༻𖥸༺⊰⋆ All the money raised from this event will be split equally between Spider’s Surgery and The Mob Strong Fund ⋆⊱༻𖥸༺⊰⋆

Spider (@spideristrap) is a south asian visual artist, musician, filmmaker, and live sound engineer based in Melbourne. They are physically disabled, unsupported by the NDIS, and currently in transitional housing. Their goal is to raise enough money for their top surgery and for any leftover funds to go to urgent mutual aid and to gender affirming surgeries in the community.

“The Mob Strong Fund is an ongoing mutual aid fund set up by Mob, for Mob. This makes supporting mutual aid and mob easy and allows multiple requests to be met. The Mob Strong Fund was created to quickly and directly respond to financial support requests from Blakfullas. Whether it's rent, groceries, health costs, or crisis needs, we see the requests and we move funds straight to community, no strings attached or state involvement.”

Last and arguably most gay (???) announcement of VEIL’s line up (meant in the most c*NT way)!! Duchess and Primary Thug aka brothers in lungis and party hosts extraordinaire, will be bringing sexy hot bouncy solo sets to the club on Sat Night in a full circle moment. Lehan and Finnigan’s journey with Kerfew started when we asked them both to play at our very first Naarm party at Misc back in 2023 ! By the time our first certified VEIL party happened in Sep 24, they were embedded in our fam and helped to throw the bash of our dreams. It was a night we all replay together all the time and the start of something truly special!!

Last year they both helped to throw VEIL 2.0 but tragedy struck when Leh was too sick to come and play and see Finnigan’s epic hybrid set !! This year, nothing is stopping them!! Both are ready to party at VEIL 3.0 and also bask in queer joy. Come through and see what they have to offer - Primary Thug has been rinsing bhojpuri realness and Duchess, well we know he’s been planning some mischief !

Also 20% of all profits will be given to Nepal Red Cross Society to support efforts in response to the devastating floods.
