WHERE’S MY MIND? 🧠

Imposter syndrome, FOMO, comparison, and the pressure to feel like you’re constantly falling behind can make it difficult to appreciate where you are in life.

I’ve spent much of my career questioning whether I was doing enough, whether I’d missed opportunities, or whether my best years were already behind me. But over time, I’ve learned that there’s a difference between being hungry for more and believing that what you have isn’t enough.

Sometimes you need to take a deep breath, slow down, stop comparing your timeline to everyone else’s, and trust that the work you’re putting in is preparing you for what’s next.

You don’t have to have everything figured out. You don’t have to be the most successful person in the room. And you don’t have to sacrifice your happiness trying to prove that you belong.

Be patient. Keep learning. Be a good human being. Stay open to opportunities, and don’t forget to appreciate the life you’re living right now.

I wrote about my experiences as a musician, the ups and downs of navigating the music industry, and how I’ve learned to look at imposter syndrome differently in my latest Substack entry.

Because sometimes the opportunity you think you missed isn’t the one you were meant to take.

And sometimes you’re not falling behind. You’re just becoming the person you need to be for what’s next.

After hearing the news that the Dillinger Escape Plan will be playing their first UK club show since Jan 2017 - I thought it pertinent to post some photos from Brighton their last show.

Absolute scenes - managed to lose all my laminates from that tour that evening probably in the pit somewhere.

See you in June fellas

Dedicating today’s playlist to a place I’d consider a sanctuary — @saintvitusbar

I spent countless evenings enjoying some of my favorite bands, finding new ones and usually leaving with a stiff neck with my ears ringing.

I’ve caught shows there with the homie @_metrovertigo_ met @peter_the_metalhead after connecting here on IG. And I know there were plenty more of yall where we’d DM-ing about the same show we were at and say “how sick it was”

Met the metal grasshopper himself @mrdavehill while attending an @eodmofficial gig.

Was introduced (briefly) to @trevortbdm by Mike of @leather_lung while seeing @spiritadrift . I distinctly remember him rocking a @maggotstomp era @frozensoultx shirt.

I pulled 6 records today from just six bands I was lucky enough to catch at the legendary Saint Vitus. I’ll probably have a few posts dedicated to that venue, but we’ll start here.

Before naming the other records - I had to pull @confinesworld & @arthurjshepherd ‘s band @primitive_weapons . “The Shadow Gallery” was great blend of metallic & post sides of “hardcore”. It was always exciting to see them opening a gig as they did for @coliseumband celebrating their 10yr anniversary tour (LP seen here).

Had the pleasure of attending both final Brooklyn shows for personal my favorite bands @trap_them_ . I’ve seen this band in various different iterations & various venues — it was a furiously chaotic send off. “Crown Feral” will be spun today.

Can’t forget that @eodmofficial show — if you were dancing you sure as hell weren’t having a good time. Ohhh and @kesha was there.

@holyfawn opened up for a slew of post metal/rock bands but I was showing up early to catch their beautiful blend of shoegaze & metal.

Definitely one of the louder shows I attended, but @monolordofficial supporting “No Comfort” felt special when seeing them absolutely crush the stage for their performance.

Can’t thank enough the guys & gals (whom ever you may be) that helped that place run all these years - those who booked shows, worked the bar or soundboard.

Thanks again @saintvitusbar for the memories looking forward to what yall have coming next.

This was the last show I played @saintvitusbar back in 2017. There was a full on blizzard that day and we had canceled the show but last minute un-canceled it and people still showed up. I had never loaded in with several feet of snow on the ground.
This was such a legendary venue. I felt so humbled playing a stage that so many incredible bands had performed on. RIP Saint Vitus. You were too good for this world.

@alienepley of @shinerkc and @thelifeandtimesmusic is a major inspiration as a musician and human being. We have toured a lot together and I am honored to call him a friend.

Him and I chatted on his podcast @scratchthirdgear and it’s streaming on all platforms now! We got to discuss a lot of my personal history including struggles with substance abuse, my professional life and career in the music industry, as well as @spotlightsmusic @primitive_weapons @onthemightofprinces_official @gracerbandofficial @julie_christmas_official @orange9mmnyc @lighttowermusic and more. I do a lot of podcasts and this one really stood out for me because of how much we got to touch on.

Check it out and share if you dig! Was very insightful and a true pleasure to connect with a talented, intelligent and kind gentleman who happens to be a legend in my book

HAPPY 13th BIRTHDAY @saintvitusbar It’s impossible to calculate and quantify how important this amazing venue is to so many people, both from here and afar. The flyer above is from my first time jamming on the stage during Vitus’ infancy back on 5/13/11. My band @goescube was honored to share the stage with our brothers in @primitive_weapons @descendernyc and our buddy Markus’ ( @oldscratchfabrications ) band Iron Tides. I have been so fortunate to return to Vitus to play nearly 25 shows with 8 different bands alongside legendary metal, punk, and hardcore bands from around the world. These were shows I drummed with @whitewidowspact #cleanteeth, @overdose_nyc @hexpyre @disassociateband #niuta and a couple songs with @godmakerbk when @jonlanehitsdrums tried to donate one of his legs to a NYC street on his bicycle 🔥🔥 So, I raise a glass and give a heartfelt cheers to Saint Vitus and especially to @confinesworld @gslades and @arthurjshepherd for making all of us weirdos feel like we have a very special place to call home. 🍻🔥🍻🤘🏼🍻 I am so hopeful that this latest city code drama will end soon and that we can all return to celebrate and enjoy our little world class metal venue. ❤️❤️❤️ FLYER BY: @lostpropinfo
