SEM AND SGV!!! Show up for South El Monte this Tuesday, October 20 at 6pm at City Hall!!!

Last meeting, our council passed a 45-day moratorium on data centers and battery energy storage systems (BESS) and asked for a full ban. The ban isn’t on Tuesday’s agenda, and here’s why that’s okay.

A permanent ban has to go through a Planning Commission hearing, a council hearing and first vote, then a final vote. Each hearing needs 10 days’ notice, and the ban takes effect 30 days after the final vote. That can’t happen in 45 days.

So Tuesday’s vote is to extend the moratorium. That doesn’t mean we wait 10 months. It means we stay protected while the city does this the right way so the ban sticks.

This isn’t just a South El Monte fight. We share the same air and water with every city around us. When one city sets a strong example, it’s easier for the next.

How to make your voice heard:
In person: up to 5 minutes per speaker
Zoom: us02web.zoom.us/j/86581711880 (Webinar ID: 865 8171 1880)

COMMUNITY MOBILIZES AGAINST MARICI BESS PROJECT

ROWLAND HEIGHTS, Calif. — Sunday, October 18, 2026, 10:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m.

Today, the Puente Hills Community Preservation Association (@phcpa_org ), alongside the No Data Centers SGV Coalition (@nodatacenterssgvcoalition), mobilized San Gabriel Valley residents at Schabarum Regional Park to raise funds for PHCPA’s legal challenge and strengthen community opposition to the Marici Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project in the City of Industry.

Community members were urged to remain united against what organizers described as a common threat: the City of Industry’s continued pursuit of large-scale industrial development and the Marici project proposed by Aypa Power, a Blackstone portfolio company. Organizers contend that the project is moving forward based on an inadequate environmental review that fails to fully account for potential impacts on surrounding communities.

The October 18 gathering was about more than one project. PHCPA and No Data Centers SGV called on residents across the San Gabriel Valley to work together, pool resources, and build the collective power necessary to challenge projects that threaten community health, safety, natural resources, and quality of life. This Tuesday, we will join coalition members @southelmontestrong in extending a moratorium against Data Centers and Battery Energy Storage System projects in South El Monte at their City Hall at 6 pm.

The message from organizers was clear: no neighborhood should have to fight these battles alone. When our communities organize together, we are stronger.

Please visit @phcpa_org to learn more about how to donate to the legal challenge arguing that there was an inadequate environmental review by City of Industry in the entitlement of the Marici BESS project.

Please support local artist @lilichin_art who has helped design many of the graphics printed on lawn signs for our fight against data centers.

Tuesday Covina City Council to vote on @axon.enterprise $777,762.33 first responder drone program WITHOUT discussion (it's a consent calendar item) which is likely not consistent with AB 481! Feel free to share!
