INSPIRARE
Breathing Life into New Vision
Curated by Juarez Hawkins @studio_rez and Thomas Lucas @printerthomas
Location: OH Art Foundation, 2nd floor gallery of Zhou B Art Center, 1029 W. 35th St., Chicago, IL 60609
Exhibition Dates: January 15th 2027 – March 14, 2027
Apply by December 13th, 2026
Notification by December 22nd, 2026
Opening Reception: Friday January 15th, 2027, 7pm-10pm

60 years ago, Black artists, writers, poets, performers, and philosophers came together to forge a vision of what Black life could become. Collectively, they breathed life into their vision, creating art movements and building institutions.
What does Black Power mean in a time of dwindling access and rising racism? We are seeking works that respond to the legacy of the Black Arts Movement, works that breathe life into a new vision for Black America while speaking our self-evident truths to power.

If you're at @nceca stop by Majestic Nexus in the conference center, reception is tonight at 4! ✨

Curated by my long-time mentor @israeldavis_artist and beloved role model @dove.hornbuckle the show highlights the Ox-Bow clay folks.

Belonging to this community of artists is a Majestic Nexus and I'm very proud to be in this show focused on the invisible strings and experiences that connect us.

@printerthomas breaks down the tie between French artist #marcelduchamp and the writings of #langstonhughes in his self portrait rendered on a radiator. The emotion is palpable. Art meets literature while challenging the functionality of objects. #pigmentintl

#BeTheRipple and support @diasporalrhythms!

Meet Diasporal Rhythms, a grassroots cultural institution that collects, promotes and preserves art from the African Diaspora by encouraging individuals and institutions to appreciate and acquire this art. For over 20 years, it has been galvanizing art lovers and expanding the appreciation of our visual arts culture—and the contemporary Black artists who create it—through workshops, seminars, tours and special events.

This year contained a multitude of informative and inspiring experiences including an excursion to the vibrant arts community of Buffalo, NY, visits to the studios of Chicago area artists such as Clifton Henri (nationally acclaimed, award-winning photographer), Thomas Lucas (printmaker, associate professor, department chair, and campus gallery curator at Chicago State University), Nick Brown (innovative, contemporary artist blending AI and mixed media), the powerful “Black & White in Color” photography exhibition and opening night reception for @pigmentintl’s inaugural Pigmented Black Fine Art Faire. Diasporal Rhythms Executive Director D.E. Simmons also received the Rooted Love Award at @ilacreativestudio’s “Black Art Love Affair” annual fundraiser for his commitment to cultural preservation and community engagement.

The organization will continue to collect, promote and preserve art from the African Diaspora by inspiring individual collectors and institutions to embrace this extraordinary art form through establishing the Diasporal Rhythms African American Collectors Institute.

Learn how you can help to ensure the preservation of Black artistry for generations to come at diasporalrhythms.org, and head to the links in our bio to

Temperature Check
Pigment International invites Chicago’s Black visual artists and others in the Black art ecosystem to take part in Temperature Check: Taking the Pulse of Chicago’s Black Visual Artists in a Shifting America. Visual artists have always been documentarians of their time—reflecting movements, mourning loss, inspiring action, and archiving truth. As America faces political, economic, and cultural shifts, we aim to listen and gather perspectives on how Chicago’s Black artists are navigating this pivotal moment. Pigment International is using its platform to listen, gather perspectives, and better understand how Chicago’s Black visual artists are navigating this pivotal moment. We invite you to share your experiences by answering five questions. Your responses will be collected and shared later this year with other Public Narrative outlets serving Chicago. See link in our bio to take survey. #pigmentintl #publicnarrative #artists #temperaturecheck

This amazing sale of Shona Sculptures ends twins weekend. Not only are there amazing deals on these highly prized artworks but you have an opportunity to tour @sbaparish Ann and Arthur Eiland Art Gallery and Collection and see the sanctuary designed as an homage to an African Village. Art rendered in wood and stain glass are featured throughout the iconic building. St. Bernard’s is one of the very few churches built in Chicago to serve a predominantly Black congregation. Each year the church commissions work by artist and this years work is by Triple Blaq! #stbenedicts #pigmentintl #blackfineartmonth
