Milan, October 2024.

I still remember walking along Via Montenapoleone as the sun was setting and the boutique lights began to come alive. When I reached Cartier, the door unlocked with a quiet click. A moment later, the glass elevator was carrying me up towards La Résidence, and the city slipped out of view.

As I moved through the boutique, the idea of a tree began to feel less like a metaphor and more like something built into the space itself. The staircase rises like a trunk, drawing the eye from the Milanese street below towards the rooms above. Rooted in the city, the boutique seemed to grow into Cartier’s world, connecting the history of Via Montenapoleone with the maison’s own heritage.

At the top, almost above the canopy, was the Tank Cintrée Montanapoleone, created to celebrate 50 years of Cartier in Milan.

Its burgundy details, inspired by the boutique’s address, number 16, made that connection tangible. Milan wasn’t simply the setting for the anniversary. A little of the city had found its way into the watch itself.

The evening unfolded around us. A table was scattered with Métiers d’Art sketches; a three-dimensional model showed how the Coussin de Cartier case could flex; and the Rotonde de Cartier dials revealed extraordinary detail. Nearby, an artisan worked on an enamel dial beneath a microscope. I stood watching, fascinated by how much patience and skill could live in such a small space.

There was also @goldberger ’s collection of Tank Cintrée watches. Listening to Auro and Michel Aliaga talk about the Cintrée and Cartier’s heritage, I had that rare feeling of being close to a story rather than simply hearing it retold. For a moment, the past felt alive, still inspiring the people and creations around me.

And all of this took place amid champagne, parmigiana di melanzane and conversations that made the evening pass far too quickly. I left feeling I had experienced something more than an anniversary: a moment in which Milan and Cartier’s histories met, and the boutique seemed to embody that connection, rising from the city below and carrying its story upwards.

Nuncier Siam Trace 🇹🇭 (limited to 50 pieces)

A long overdue introduction to one of my latest additions.

Besides watches, I love traveling, especially in Asia, and above all Thailand: the land of smiles and home of my favorite food 🥭 I always wanted a watch with Thai numerals, as a memory on my wrist and a way to practice my Thai: ๑ Nueng, ๒ Song, ๓ Saam, ๔ Sii, ๕ Haa!

Call it destiny: @nuncier ‘s booth was right next to ours during @wela_bangkok . After I instantly became friends with @haroonnaeem_ , it was clear I’d be buying this limited edition, even though I swore I wouldn’t buy any more watches…🌚

Officially, the sand-textured, topographic dial resembles the desert landscapes of the Gulf region, bringing Nuncier’s Bahraini roots together with Thailand. For me, it also recalls Thailand’s beautiful golden temples and the traditional golden costumes and headdresses. All of this sits in Nuncier’s Carbon X Tech case with protective anti-shock ears.

It’s a quartz watch, it reminds you of a famous sports watch, and it wasn’t as expensive as many others I saw and wore during my trip to Bangkok. But for me, it’s one of my most special watches: It carries great memories, soothes my wanderlust when I’m far from Thailand (or intensifies, depending on the mood 😅), and reminds me of all the new wonderful friendships I made in Bangkok. ♥️🇹🇭 #chrisonwatches

Pre Bangkok watch week dinner with good friends 🧡

There is something about watching a familiar city pass by through a car window.

The streets you know by heart. The buildings you have seen countless times. Squares and monuments that have been part of your life for as long as you can remember.

Some have changed along the way, almost growing with you. Others seem to have stood still, keeping the same solid presence while everything around them moved on.

I think a lot of our sense of wonder comes from moments like these. From simply looking at the world around us and being fascinated by what we see, even when it is something we have seen countless times before.

As children, that feeling came so naturally. A toy, a book, a little object we had just discovered could keep us completely absorbed. We could look at it for ages, simply because we found it beautiful or fascinating.

Growing up, I don’t think we lose that feeling. We just find different things that bring it back.

Sometimes, in the middle of a completely ordinary day, I look down at my wrist and find it again.

The light catches the dial, a detail suddenly stands out, and for a moment I just stop and look at it.

It reminds me of that same feeling I had as a child.

And maybe that is what I love most about watches.

They can still surprise you when you least expect it.

Sometimes you leave home with almost every detail of the day already planned, only to come back thinking about the things you never could have planned.

The idea was simple: get away for a while, clear my mind, and let the Swiss Alps do what they seem to do best. A spontaneous picnic in the mountains, an alpine lake in front of me, green valleys passing by outside the window, and eventually Gstaad.

I had heard that name so many times that I thought I already knew what to expect.

A place I had mostly seen through watches, travel and social media. Beautiful, refined, exclusive, almost too perfect to be real.

But Gstaad was something else entirely.

I left the car, crossed the little pedestrian bridge over the river, and suddenly found myself in the middle of a celebration.

Cows, bells, people in traditional Swiss clothing, and the deep sound of alphorns echoing between the chalets. Restaurants were full, people were enjoying the afternoon, and the mountains stood quietly behind it all.

It felt almost like walking into a postcard, except the postcard was alive.

That was the moment I understood what made Gstaad so different.

Not simply its boutiques or reputation, but the way alpine traditions, breathtaking landscapes and the energy of a living village seem to coexist so naturally.

And somehow, that same contrast followed me throughout the afternoon.

The Tank Américaine, with its unmistakable elegance and refinement, felt almost unexpected against the mountains, the cows and the sound of the alphorns.

Yet looking at it there, it didn’t feel out of place at all.

Maybe that is what made the day so memorable.

Nothing extraordinary had been planned. I simply set out to spend a day in the mountains, and somewhere along the way, the day became something completely different from what I had imagined.

The kind of memory that stays with you long after the road home is over.

Not mine. These are photos I took at Watches and Wonders 2026.

The more I studied the Crash, the less I saw it as an isolated design.

Looking back at the shapes Cartier explored over the decades, I began to see a progression: from geometry to curves, from symmetry to asymmetry, from structure to something increasingly fluid.

The connection I draw from there is my own.

But it changed the way I see the Crash completely.

Not simply as one of Cartier’s most recognisable watches, but as a moment in which a century of exploring form seems to meet something much older than design itself: the world around us.
