By the last day of @filmschoolroadtrip Iceland, I took a look at my ziplock bags full of shot film and had a “um holy shit” moment. I had shot nothing but Lomo Purple. And with only 2 rolls under my belt, I knew I would leave the orange filter at home (never shoot Purple with an orange filter), and I just took a gamble as I knew I didn’t want hipster Portra Iceland photos. So I got a little logical and loaded my go-to Kodak Gold+1 into the Mamiya RZ Pro II and shot the 20 rolls I brought with me. I don’t regret the Purple at all, I just got nervous and wanted to cover my bases knowing full well it was already too late. I’m really considering shooting Purple again when I go in June but also depending on how windy it is bringing my flash setup EVERYWHERE. #mamiyarzproii #kodakgoldpushed1stop #thefindlab

I went into this trip having no idea what to expect. As soon as we landed and met up with the group I knew it was going to be amazing and that I was right where I needed to be. @filmschoolroadtrip ICELAND TESTIMONIAL - “Growing up my father was a pilot and I was fortunate enough to see a few unique places around the world. I thought my past traveling experiences would help me prepare for Iceland but when you travel with a band of 15+ photographers theres not a whole to prepare you for that! This trip was unforgettable in many ways, Iceland is such a vast and magical place. The greenest, softest grass you’ve ever seen. Not to mention massive waterfalls and beautiful horses and sheep!!! The peace of mind I felt on this trip was like nothing else. Some of my favorite memories are ones I made just chatting with people in the van on our drives in between stops. I genuinely made some life long friends on this trip. Theres no need for a class structure on these road trips, I learned more about photography and also life from just my peers. Talking about our origins with photography and becoming inspired from one another and then to also have this all happening in a place like Iceland? Unreal. That place will bring out some major creative juices. If one of these trips fits into your schedule do everything you can to go! You will come back refreshed and inspired! I know that was only the first of hopefully many FSRT I gonna be on :)” - @prkernolan / @mediabynolan One of the best parts of this trip was driving with Parker down some windy roads having all these big life discussions and then 5 months later being emailed a photo of our faces showing thr aggressiveness on my face and Parker’s look of “oh shit” saying we were speeding. I most definitely was and it was worth every penny. We’re headed back to Iceland this June specifically during Soltice so we have the most amount of light available to photograph and soak in geothermal bodies of water. @filmschoolroadtrip ICELAND TESTIMONIAL - “Iceland 2025 was my 3rd FSRT. It was my 40th birthday present to myself. It’s so amazing to me how this format of group travel can bring together such a cool group of humans everytime. An assortment of ages, identities, backgrounds, photography experience, state residences and even nationalities and yet we can all hang pretty much immediately. This trip pushed me on my ability to run on little sleep for days on end. But when you get a bunch of photographers in a country that never really gets dark (which is a surreal experience) at any point of the day, it’s to be expected. The coolest photos taken ended up being at around 11 pm when we had 4 hours to drive home still. Jon, Noelle, and Taylor did a hell of a job of driving us all around for 5 days while doing the entire experience themselves, I don’t know how you all did it but I’m glad you did. And sitting in a geothermal lagoon next to the ocean will forever be the best cure for jet lag.” - @sarahrosestudioart I’ve been to Cuba 2x’s, Iceland with her 1x, & I think we will be eating our way through Tokyo in Oct. Lots of folks have hit that trifecta where they’ve been to all 3 locations I offer. It really is something to find your people. These trips seem to attract some of the coolest, down to earth, void of ego, folks I’ve ever met. She wasn’t lyin about the type of person this thing attracts. @filmschoolroadtrip ICELAND TESTIMONIAL - “Iceland was otherworldly. The landscapes will humble you with their scale. Driving along the south coast, you’ll see vast lava fields from past eruptions, waterfalls that will totally soak & drench you, geothermal pools, & fields of vibrant lupines. But my favorite moment came at Stokksnes - standing there at 9pm with the wind howling, grains of volcanic black sand stinging my eyes, while the midnight sun bathed the mountain in golden light. Photos don’t do it justice. You need to stand there, feel the wind whip your face, breathe the crisp air, & take it all in. How would I feel if I hadn’t gone? I don’t even want to imagine. I don’t usually get FOMO, but missing this would have been a huge loss. Truly one of the best decisions I’ve made this year. I was crazy enough to pack for a trip from Asia to Europe with just a day’s notice. Travel enriches you, but the people make the experience. I was incredibly lucky to be part of an amazing group. The energy was electric. There were quiet moments staring out at the landscapes and endless conversations. Though we came from different parts of the world, we connected & shared countless laughs. I’m still in touch with people from the workshop. That tells you everything. The workshop itself is completely interactive. You can ask Jon anything about film, cameras, the lab, even life advice. Nothing is off limits. Being curious makes the experience richer. I hadn’t enjoyed shooting this much in years. No assignments. No clients. No deadlines. Just pure photography. I had planned to bring my film cameras but couldn’t, between the visa stress & no time for test rolls. Thankfully, a legend in our group lent me two of hers. So take the leap. Try it for yourself.
