POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

I spent six years in the NFL. I watched teammates make more money in one season than most people make in ten, and I watched a lot of it disappear.

Thanks to NBC 5’s Newy Scruggs, MBA for having me on to talk about it.

Entrepreneurs face the same problem:

-A big liquidity event.
-A short window to get it right.
-A CPA, an attorney, and an advisor who never talk to each other.

Making the money is one thing. Keeping it takes a different skill set.

Jerry Jones has said this:

“Making money isn’t the hard part, it’s keeping it.”

People think that they could easily be the person to manage $40M.

What you don’t know is all the problems that sit around the corner.

I’ve seen people give half that amount away in the first week of receipt and completely forget about the tax bill due…

In the matter of months or years, in some cases, it’s all gone.

Friends, family, strangers, and even you can become your own problem.

Making money is one skill.

Holding onto it is another.

We hosted the Prestige Pour this week, our entrepreneurial event for women.

The theme was simple: Protect what you pour yourself into.

Your family. Your business. Your wealth. Your legacy.

I shared a couple of financial principles successful families need to understand:

Cash is Last.
Titling is Everything.

But the stars of the show were our panelists— @paulinawalters_, @firstandfull, and @maryelizabethrobb. Thank you for bringing your experience, wisdom, and perspective to the table.

And a huge thank you to our @procapitaltx team— @makenzie_kahan, @meredith.smith9, @shaylorsmith, and @smithy.n, -for executing so well.

We had a packed room, a waiting list, and incredible feedback.

The purpose of Prestige Pour is bigger than one event. It’s about raising the tide for all ships—helping one another multiply what we’ve built and protect the families we’re building it for.

Thank you to everyone who showed up and shared in that vision.

What an incredible afternoon at the Prestige Pour tea party yesterday 🫖 A room full of ambitious, like minded women, talking candidly about business, leadership, and being good stewards of our finances 🤍

Thank you to @coryprocter and @procapitaltx for pouring into all of us. A few of the nuggets that stuck with me:

💰 Cash has to move to be fruitful, and you can give from funds outside of cash too

🩵 It’s not just about the money, it’s your wealth, your faith, your family, all working together

🙏🏻 As leaders, it’s our job to steward and invest wisely, for ourselves and everyone connected to us

📝 How are your assets titled? The way they’re titled can override your will entirely

So many other good nuggets got dropped around business, marketing, social media, and leaning on faith through seasons of turbulence.

As entrepreneurs, we’re not meant to figure this out alone, and yesterday was proof of that.

We can lean on wise counsel from trusted professionals like wealth managers.

We can lean on support from our community of business owners and founders.

And most importantly, we can find strength through our faith. As Philippians 4:13 says: we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us 🙏🏻

Thank you to everyone who showed up and poured into the room. Already looking forward to next year!

I remember lining up across from guys in the NFL thinking:

“This dude is WAY bigger in person than he was on film.”

I just remember thinking “I better punch the living sh*t outta this dude, or it’s going to be a long day!”

Sometimes you got beat.

But you had about 30 seconds before you had to line up and face the same guy again.

Buckle up. Next play.

I think that conditioning is one reason I became an entrepreneur.

Because running a business requires the same thing.

You risk your money.
You make decisions without knowing the outcome.
You get rejected.
You make bad hires.
You have months where you wonder if this thing is actually going to work.

And a lot of people enter business without ever having been conditioned to deal with that level of fear.

So when it hits, they retreat.

But the ones who learn to keep lining up eventually reap the rewards.

That same willingness to face fear got me on an NFL field, helped me start (and keep) my businesses, pursue my wife, land some of my biggest clients and walk into rooms I probably had no business being in.

Some of the greatest things in my life were sitting on the other side of something I was afraid to do.

That’s why fear became an indicator for me.

This is exactly what I need to do.

And if you’re a husband and father, that matters even more. Your family is watching how you respond when those moments come in.

Scripture says God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love and a sound mind.

Courage isn’t the absence of fear.

It’s deciding fear doesn’t get to make the decision.

I met a guy last year doing millions in revenue with very little personal wealth to show for it.

He was pretty proud of that top line revenue but I’ve met some folks that make way less in revenue and produce a ton for their families.

Revenue isn’t profit. And revenue isn’t wealth.

Know your margins. Know what it costs to grow. And most importantly, know what you’re actually keeping.

Minimumviability is 10% and goal should be 30% or more.

Don’t build a big business that never builds wealth for your family.

84% of pro athletes go broke.

For a long time, athletes frustrated me.

I saw bad decisions, bad advisors, bad entourages, and guys who wouldn’t listen.

But I keep getting challenged with this:

“What about the 16%?”

The group that I fell in…

The guys who are coachable. The guys who want to build a business, create wealth, and leave a legacy.

Fellas:

I can’t want your future more than you do!

The contract may make you rich, but the choices you make after the contract determine whether your family stays wealthy.

The contract changes your bank account. Maturity changes your family tree.

The game always ends.

The question ends up being:

Are you living up like an athlete? Blowing everything you have and making bad choices?

Or are you building like an owner?

Money doesn’t change people…

Money is an amplifier of the heart.
It doesn’t change you—it makes you more of what you already are.

What we do with a little…
we’ll do with a lot.

So here’s the real question:
What does money magnify in you?
What does it expose?

If you’ve lived this—good or bad—drop a comment below.

Share your story.

You gotta risk it to get the biscuit!

It’s corny but true.

I was talking with a buddy who has a lot of cash sitting on the sidelines because he’s afraid to put it to work. That conversation reminded me that fear has a funny way of disguising itself as wisdom.

Yes, manage risk. Do your homework. Don’t be reckless.

But don’t let self-preservation keep you from the opportunities God has put in front of you

You took a risk asking your spouse on a date.

You took a risk applying for the job.

You took a risk starting the business.

Most of the best things in your life probably came because you were willing to take a shot.

So here’s the question:

Where have you slipped into self-preservation mode?

Where are you playing defense when you should be stepping forward?

Take the shot.

You might miss.

But you’ll never hit the opportunities you refuse to swing at.

She still asks me to make pancakes.

Only these days she doesn’t need a chair to see…

I am so thankful for what God has given me.

Our beautiful babies are the most precious gift and our responsibility to protect and provide for.

I have a deep desire for significance in my life, especially to the ones in my house.

I’m not too proud to say it.

I love it when they give me huge hugs and kisses when coming home.

That’s what all this is for.

All the building of the company, wealth, impact, posting on social media, etc.

So I can be home for my family and you can be home for yours.

Don’t get me wrong. I love winning and landing big clients.

But this is where it’s at.

Make sure you remember that.

The standard isn’t a standard if you abandon it anytime it gets uncomfortable.

Don’t panic. Give it enough time for the results to catch up to the standard.
