A lot happened during @usopenmtb week so again, another post. I’m working on getting caught back up on my weekly dumps tho. Mashed through another banger of a show with the crew and celebrated with some good coffee and another stellar up high bike ride. Utah keeps rippin.

The 2026 season was about half as long as a normal season for me, but it was still full of ups and downs. Winning my first @prodownhillseries race and then backing it up with a P2 at @usopenmtb was a career high for me. It wasn’t all a smooth ride, breaking my arm wasn’t ideal, neither was crashing during my qualifying run at World Cup. Overall I’m stoked with the year though! 2027 prep started today, I’m off to the gym to get my @performx_training back on track.

YOUR NEXT SEASON STARTS WITH AN HONEST LOOK AT THIS ONE.

The early off-season gives downhill MTB athletes space to recover, reflect, and build a clear direction after months of training, travel, and race pressure.

🔴 MOVE WELL
Reduce training demands. Restore mobility, coordination, balance, and control. Practice foundational movements with manageable loads before building intensity.

🔴 ADDRESS LINGERING ISSUES
Recurring pain, restricted motion, or movements you avoid deserve attention. Work with a physical therapist when needed and coordinate training with their guidance.

🔴 RESET MENTALLY
Ride without chasing the clock. Reconnect with people and interests beyond racing. Do some soul-searching: How is your motivation, confidence, and relationship with the sport?

🔴 REVIEW YOUR SEASON
What went well? What held you back: strength, conditioning, technique, pain, fueling, sleep, confidence, or your schedule?
Review training records, race footage, and coach feedback. Choose a few priorities you can act on.

🔴 INDIVIDUALIZE YOUR TIMELINE
There’s no fixed duration. A healthy, refreshed athlete with clear development needs may be ready to begin focused training sooner. Someone coming off a long, demanding season may need more recovery and rejuvenation.

Being behind your goals doesn’t automatically mean you need less rest. Let health and readiness guide your return.

🔴 BUILD A SMART ACTION PLAN
Make goals specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, realistic, and time-bound. Define what you’ll do, how often, and when you’ll reassess.

Example: “For four weeks, I’ll complete a 10-minute movement routine three days per week, log sessions, and reassess with my coach.”

WHY IT MATTERS
Recovery creates space to address issues that race season pushed aside. Reflection identifies your priorities. An action plan gives your next training block purpose.

Recover with intention. Reflect with honesty. Build with purpose.

What will you address before next season?

NEXT SEASON STARTS WITH RECOVERY.

A demanding downhill season adds up: training, travel, crashes, and pressure to perform.

October and November offer space to address lingering injuries, improve mobility and movement, and refresh your mind before building toward next year.

Give recovery a place in your plan:
• Seek appropriate assessment and rehabilitation for persistent pain or injuries.
• Improve mobility and movement control.
• Prioritize sleep and reduce accumulated fatigue.
• Enjoy riding, family, and friends without the pressure of the clock.

Then build progressively through PERIODIZATION: training in phases, with each preparing you for the next.

1. RECOVER | Off-season / transition
Reduce training demands, address injuries, and recharge physically and mentally. Maintain comfortable activity that supports recovery.
2. BUILD | General preparation
Develop strength, aerobic fitness, and work capacity.
3. REFINE | Specific preparation
Refine technique on the DH bike. Progress into timed runs and mock race efforts as readiness improves.
4. RACE | Competitive season
Maintain fitness, manage fatigue, and adjust training around priority races.

For athletes targeting a March start, preparation begins now—with recovery.

Phases overlap. Timing depends on your recovery, injury status, and race calendar.

Recover with purpose. Build progressively. Race prepared.

CALLING OUT ALL MY DH RACERS! Don’t put those bikes away yet.
Here’s a chance to keep your skills sharp during the offseason.
While you might be snowed in and frozen at home.

We are shoveling 3 ft of sunshine!

That means, Winter Downhill is alive and well in Nevada.

If you have never experienced Bootleg Canyon, I can promise you, there is nothing like it anywhere else in the world!
