BATTER UP: I invited JP and Drew, of the @picklesbaseball Heated Rivalry fame, into my studio for a little pitcher and catcher role play. I loved the chemistry between these two and wanted to capture some of that on-deck energy. Who would have thought it’d be a in-the-hole flashback for me, bringing back the moments of picking daisies in the outfields of Boring as my parents forced me to play tee-ball and baseball growing up until I was allowed to join the drama club in 6th grade. Thank you @j.p.hardyofficial and @profit_logic for such generosity and playful spirit.

You probably recognize these two. If you somehow missed it, JP and Drew’s viral moment during Portland Pickles Heated Rivalry Night made its way across the internet, was featured by OUT Magazine, Gay Times, PinkNews, and international media, leaving millions of people wondering what they’d just witnessed. I had the chance to photograph them after all the chaos settled, and instead of recreating the viral moment, we turned it into a vintage magazine inspired editorial that felt worthy of the headlines. Equal parts baseball, camp, fashion, and storytelling. One of my favorite things about photography is taking a moment people already know and giving it a new life. JP and Drew are genuinely two of the funniest, kindest people I know, and I’m incredibly honored to do this w them. Creating this with them was every bit as fun as it looks. If you’re dreaming up an idea that doesn’t fit inside a traditional photoshoot, let’s make it happen. And because great people deserve to be celebrated: Drew (@profit_logic ) is a queer bookkeeper who’s currently taking on new clients. If you’re a creative, freelancer, or small business owner looking for someone who understands both your business and your community, reach out to him. I can’t recommend him enough.
