First time wearing my new selvedge denim by @omotodenim_japan. Previously, I never wore denim during the summer, but the fabric of these jeans are almost as light as linen. Another awesome purchase from my friends at @ford_general in Chicago's Old Town neighborhood. I urge my fellow Chicago sartorialists to check out this menswear store, which stocks items from smaller artisanal firms. Eyeglasses: @caddis_life Miklos Wool-linen Jacket: @jmclaughlin made with fabric from @abrahammoonsons in England Shantung Silk Pocket Square: @samhobercompany The colors of this striped square are the same as the color of the AFC Richmond kits on @ted.lasso.official Oxford Cloth Button-down Shirt: @propercloth Belt: @grabrodern from @ford_general The excellent metalwork is from Japan Japanese Selvedge Denim: @omotodenim_japan The Man Turned into a Bird (taken from Japanese folklore) from @ford_general Leather Sneakers: @collegium for @ragandbone Vintage Watch: Late 1970s gold-plated @omega Seamaster Wedding Band: Pro Gems in Chicago Soundtrack Note: In the penultimate episode of my homage to Charlie Parker, here is track with Bird accompanied by strings and other symphonic instruments (e.g. an oboe) in 1950. This and other "Bird with Strings" recordings fulfilled Parker's log-held desire to record with strings...he was not solely motivated by a desire to reach a wider audience. While some of his contemporaries viewed the recordings as a sell-out, I think that they have aged very well.

Running errands with Dr.Robin in beautiful @vglencoe, one of Chicago’s North Shore suburbs. Representing one of the finest liberal arts colleges in America, @hamiltoncollege, right @djparkypark? Baseball Cap: @hamiltoncollege and @hamiltoncollegealumni Eyeglasses: @eyebobs Fresh Eyes Polo shirt: @southerntide from @ondeck_clothing in lovely @visitfishcreek, Wisconsin on the @doorcounty Peninsula. I am a huge fan of this sports-/casualwear brand. Leather Belt: Unknown provenance Seagull-themed Nantucket Red Shorts: @jmclaughlin Another one of my favorite sportswear brands. Sneakers: @petermillar Glide V3. Yet another favorite sportswear brand. Pilot’s Watch: @breitling Colt Automatix from @sydelandsydel in Chicago Wedding Band: @progemsllc in Chicago Soundtrack Note: The Minitemen were a great 1980s punk band from very unfashionable Southern California city of San Pedro. This provocatively-named song is off their magnum opus “Double Nickels on the Dime” (truckers’ slang for driving down Interstate 10 at 55 miles per hour).

One reason that Chicago is a great city is that you can stroll city boulevards one moment, and then walk along the beach literally a few minutes later. Yesterday was a perfect day for me to don my new @jmclaughlin safari jacket again. This time, I paired it with a white linen shirt and white cotton trousers. Eyeglasses @caddis_life Miklos Sunglasses: @caddis_life Dohbro Linen Safari Jacket: @jmclaughlin made with Italian @_leomaster_ fabric Linen Shirt: @collarsandcoclothing Cotton Trousers: @clubmonaco Hosiery: @gap Suede Penny Loafers: @petermillar Madison Watch: @breitling Colt Automatic from @sydelandsydel in Chicago Wedding Band: @progemsllc Soundtrack Note: I continue with my homage to the music of the late great tenor saxophonist Sonny Rollins. "Blue 7" one of Rollins' true masterpieces - an austere yet powerful interpretation of the blues. This track is off of the legendary album "Saxophone Colossus", which one musicologist called Rollins' "chef d'oeuvre, and one of the classic jazz albums of all time." Accompanying Sonny were three great maestros in their own right: Tommy Flanagan on piano, Doug Watkins on bass, and Max Roach on drums.
