MY SECOND YEAR INTO RUNNING WAS WHEN I WANTED TO START DOING ULTRAS AND THE @aravaiparunning INSOMNIAC SERIES KICK OFF FELL RIGHT INTO MY LAP. MY WIFE TOLD ME ABOUT 2 MONTHS AGO WE WOULD BE VISITING HER FAMILY IN QUEEN CREEK, AZ. WITH ARIZONA BEING THE EPICENTER OF TRAIL RUNNING RACES I GOT CURIOUS TO SEE IF ANY 50k WERE GOING ON THAT WEEKEND. LO AND BEHOLD THE SINISTER NIGHT 54k RUN WAS BEING HELD THAT WEEKEND AND IN QUEEN CREEK 😲
I TOOK IT AS A SIGN 🙏🏻 AND REGISTERED RIGHT AWAY. I NEVER DONE THAT MUCH MILEAGE (30 was the most) NEVER RAN AT NIGHT, NEVER RAN IN THE ARIZONA DESERT. THERE WAS ALOT OF FIRST AND ALOT OF UNKNOWNS. I WAS DEFINITELY MORE NERVOUS AND EXCITED TO DO THIS THAN ANY OF THE ROAD RACES IVE DONE PREVIOUSLY. AFTER FINISHING 4TH I WAS REALLY PROUD OF MYSELF. I KNOW I NEED MORE TRAINING MORE TIME ON FEET IN THE DIRT BUT I ALSO KNOW I CAN PUSH MYSELF MENTALLY AND CAN REALLY PURSUE BEING AN ULTRA RUNNER. IM GOING TO HIT THE GOALS THAT I HAVE ( BIGGEST ONE BEING THE MONSTER 300) BY BEING PATIENT DISCIPLINED AND COURAGEOUS IVE NEVER BEEN AFRAID OF FAILURE SO LETS LET IT RIP 💥💥

My first rip into the ultra world and it didn’t disappoint. Ever since I started running I wanted to do big mile races and @aravaiparunning sinister nights 54k was the start of that journey 🙏🏻 It was hard and humbling. It was fun and exciting. Running into the night in the Arizona desert 🏜️ was the perfect welcoming to ultras. I loved every second of it. Taking 4th place against some elites was better than I could’ve imagined. It’s back to the lab do some actual trail training and really tap into my potential. The ultra seed has been planted and I’m ready to watch it grow these next couple years. Thanks for supporting me on all my crazy ideas @maylinglin having the family there really helped me push thru those last two loops. Appreciate the love and backing the dream @programathletics @rangeessentials @hyperlyteliquidperformance onto the next one … 🤜🤛 RECAP VIDEO SOON
