I saw my girl @mellies.endless.tbr make a Jack and Sally stack I immediately went and grabbed my Nightmare Before Christmas blanket. That's always been a favorite Halloween movie in our house.

October Hopefuls 🦇

Thanks to @project.bookhem for the recommendation of Intercepts!

Nerd Alert: the grotesque on the stack is from the Biltmore house in Asheville, NC (gargoyles are water features, grotesques are decorative). The estate was designed in the French chateau style by architect Richard Morris Hunt (who did Central Park in NYC, etc) and the grotesques and gargoyles were hand carved in the late 1800s by stone artisans, who were given full creative freedom. The process took 6 years. They are all stunning.

👻Ghost Stack👻

My boss gave me this super cute glass ghost figurine and I decided he needed a stack. The pictures don't show it but he is holographic, super cute.

📚Sunday Shelfie📚

It's a lazy Sunday morning here. Still in my robe and slippers. Drinking tea. Helping the littles with some school work. Doing a little laundry. Going to hang out at a friend's later.

I have my fun, spooky photoshoot this evening so I'm excited for that. They are gonna look so cool. So be prepared to be spammed with those once I get them hehe.

“𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙟𝙖𝙧 𝙬𝙖𝙨 𝙛𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙮 𝙚𝙢𝙥𝙩𝙮.”

Fourteen years ago, Angela Wong went missing, but her remains have finally been found. Her best friend, Georgina Shaw, is now on trial for her involvement with the murder, along with Geo’s abusive ex, Calvin James.

This was a great crime thriller. The beginning jumps right in with the trial and as the present story goes on it’s interlaced with the past, slowly bringing the whole story together.

The author did a fantastic job keeping you guessing to the very end. You constantly feel like you’re figuring it out, but then another piece of the story drops and you have to change everything you thought you knew.

As much as I liked the true crime part of it, there are aspects of the story that are really hard to read. Geo (and Angela) went through a lot, and while Angela is dead, Geo has to continue to live with the grief and the guilt of her actions and the actions of Calvin.

The ending was quick, but it didn’t feel rushed (if that makes sense.) It left me satisfied and that’s all I could ask for.

I read this as a buddy read with @project.bookhem and we had a hell of a time trying to figure out who did what 🤣 some of the twists were predictable and some we never saw coming, but it was a great time!

𝚃𝚑𝚎 𝙱𝚘𝚘𝚔𝚜 𝚋𝚎𝚏𝚘𝚛𝚎 𝙱𝚘𝚘𝚔𝚜𝚝𝚊 ✨

I’ve been on Booksta for 4 years but for the first 3, I was pretty quiet, barely on here and made absolutely zero effort. Then, almost a year ago I decided I wanted to yap about these books specifically with more than just my 2 IRL best friends that don’t read as much as me.

Some of these books aren’t favorites of mine anymore and my ratings or feelings about them have definitely changed over time. But if it weren’t for some of these authors and their books, I don’t think I ever would’ve had the desire to really join Booksta and become part of this community.

These books helped me find my people. Like @project.bookhem who tagged me in her before Booksta post 🫶🏼

📚Books I loved before joining bookstagram📚

When @kellis.booknook and @hannie_books_ both tagged me in this one I knew I needed to do it. I've been a reader forever. So there was always books before Bookstagram.

Here are a few of mine that I always loved.

📚Griffin and Sabine
A lonely London postcard designer receives a telepathic letter from a stamp illustrator in the South Pacific. The story is told through real illustrated letters and postcards that you pull from envelopes. There are 7 books in this series, the art work is gorgeous. And I think what I always loved was how its a bunch of art with real handwritten letters you have to takenoutnof envelopes to read.

📚Stalking Jack the Ripper
Yes its a young adult series(4books) but I love it. Historical mystery, Gothic romance. Audrey and Thomas have such good chemistry. And I love the murder mystery vibes.

📚The Odyssey
I mean do I need to describe this one haha. I just always enjoyed this story. And this copy was my grandma's, it's from 1900.

📚God-Shaped Hole
The first line of the book is a Chris Cornell lyric, "If your intentions are pure, I’m seeking a friend for the end of the world." A lyric I always really liked (song choice for this post). Trixie sees this personal ad which only had that lyric. She takes a chance and meets Jacob. The story is raw, emotional, romantic. Sad but beautiful at the same time.

📚The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy and other stories
A cute poetry book by Tim Burton filled with his art. The poems are short but so very him. And all the fun art work you'd expect.

📚My Girl
Ugh this book and the movie. Devastating but so good. This is my really old copy, cover taped together, my 10yr name written on the inside cover on a this book belongs to sticker.

I was tagged by the lovely @lilbeereadsbooks for her Five Star Book Tag trend and as someone who doesn’t give out 5 stars often, this was kinda hard! Actually, some of these were even 4.5 stars 😅

Which means if the books in my last slide are your favorites, it’s okay! I just rated them 3 or 3.5 stars and that’s okay too because let’s all remember✨reading is subjective ✨

I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend! Friday my boyfriend’s family and I booked my first ever cruise for next summer. Saturday I did some book shopping (and somehow bought zero books), walked around a local cider mill, went to a book fair for adults only and had some hibachi for dinner. So my weekends been grand and the reset I needed!
