An Evening With Comanda x Project1957 - 2.8.25 🙏🏾

Events of any scale are not easy. My book turned 5 in July and honestly I wasn’t even going to do anything until @priscillaohene_ convinced me that I could and helped co-ordinate the event from inception to event day. Thank you for your efforts and for planting the seed 🫶🏾🤝🏾

Aside from that though? EVERYTHING was on me 🤣💷💀
It was not easy at ALL. I ain’t been as stressed as I was leading up to that day in a very long time and if you know me, you know I hate stress. So many hurdles, a truly ghetto experience. The lack of support I was feeling as well made the whole thing just feel like what’s even the point? The straw that broke the camel’s back had to be the initial venue cancelling a week till event day. At that point? I said yeah myth forget it, I cried my eyes out🤣

But I knew deep down that the mission was bigger than me. What I had created, even though I didn’t deep it 5 years ago, was way too important to let slide. So I had to find somewhere else asap and God so good; just look at the works of his hands 🙏🏾

My gratitude especially goes to the panel @harm_kay @drdapaah and @lorrainehwright who were absolutely amazing and led such an insightful discussion, and to @project1957 for their support🫶🏾

Special thanks to @platteravenue and @vintagesipss for the amazing food and cocktails🎉 @claudscookies @taylorstinge 🍪🎂😍 Hugee thank you to @serwaaism & @adowadancersuk for the entertainment provided 🎉 Many thanks to @funkynfreshdj for coming through at the last minute on the music 🤝🏾

My tribe @ivysorbit @uniquemerv_ @lucindaei for all the help and support throughout the whole thing too, legit the best sisters ❤️

Last but not least: every single person that shared the event without me even having to ask, that supported my efforts, that SHOWED UP or contributed in ways we both know - I can’t thank you enough and I appreciate you so much 🫶🏾

Comanda’s Twi Guide paperback is out now, please continue to support it and share it not even for me, but for the culture 🫶🏾🇬🇭

📹: @unkwnproductiongroup thank you guys too, super amazing to work with and so professional, appreciate you guys 🥰

GHANA DECIDES 2024

In just over 48 hours Ghanaians go the polls in what is likely to be a tightly contested election

WHAT ARE THE CHOICES FOR GHANAIANS ?

Although there are 12 candidates vying for the presidency the two candidates set to battle it out for election are Dr Mahamudu Bawumia the flagbearer of the ruling National Patriotic Party (NPP) and John Dramani Mahama the leader of the opposition party National Democratic Congress (NDC). For Bawumia having served as Vice -President for 8 years he could make history as Ghana’s first muslim president. Whilst for Mahama winning election will mean a return to power for him having served as president between 2012-2016.

Other notable candidates include entrepreneur Nana Kwame Bediako known as “cheddar and Alan Kyerrmaten a former minister.

THE ISSUES AT PLAY

“It’s the economy stupid” a phrase coined by James Carville in regard to the US election of 1992 has been symbolic of the main issue in many elections worldwide since and 2024 in Ghana is no different. With the rising cost of living, inflation and prices rising steadily the economy is set to be a deciding factor in the election.

The last two years have seen Ghana default on its loan meaning there was little l little left to support the country’s budget, forcing Ghana to go to the International Monetary Fund for help.

Concerns over the environmental impact of illegal mining “galamsey” is another contentious issue with both major parties pledging to address the issue definitively but differing in their approach towards this.

For young people unemployment remains a huge concern with many youth looking for opportunities outside the country. The widespread occupy jublorbi house youth demonstration movement which undertook demonstrations last year cited unemployment, mismanaged economy, unchecked corruption, under resourced health service and galamsey as its motivations and these are the issues which are likely to determine their vote

Whoever you vote for we would urge you to make an informed choice and respect the right of others to do the same.
