ā€œSomebody to loveā€

This year for my solo I was very persistent on this song not only because I’m just such a huge fan of Queen but I felt as if deep deep down I could truly relate to this song on a personal level. Everyone talks about finding that someone, your person, and as I’ve grown older, as most would, I started wanting that too.

What I didn’t realize is that it didn’t have to be in the romantic sense. Finding your ā€œsomeone to loveā€ can also be very platonic.

During this performance I definitely got a little bit emotional and let me tell you why. I realized that I had my ā€œsomeone to loveā€. Except my ā€œsomeoneā€ wasn’t just one person. It was my army of people, my studio, my coaches, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and most importantly my parents. I realized that this whole time, all along. I had what I had been searching for. What I had been almost yearning for all these years. I can’t even describe the feeling I felt. The realization that I had when I looked out into the audience. If I’m being honest I forgot about the judges, about the competition and my eyes only saw one person, my dad. I think if there was one person I could dedicate my solo to, it would be my dad. I could go into detail but this would be endlessly long so I’ll leave it at that.

I would also like to thank @gevmanoukian ,thank you for opening so many doors for me with this solo. Thank you for teaching me that it is okay to vulnerable on stage, to open up to the audience, to be myself and not try to change the way I move or perform to fit in. Your guidance love and support mean more to me than you’ll ever know. I am so so eternally grateful to have been blessed with a mentor like you. So much love for you.

Thank you to all of the staff at P52 that never stop believing in me and continue to push me year by year to get better. Especially @taylorrdelongg and @maria_project52 you two are seriously some of the best teachers and supporters ever.

Thank you to my uncle Jake (@amandamariehermann ) for collabing with me on the choreography. I wouldn’t be tapping how I am if I didn’t start with you.

This is ā€œsomebody to loveā€ it’s not perfect but it is unapologetically me.
