We talk so much about the younger generation drinking cocktails…but what about the older generation enjoying them for the first time?

This is my dad and I took him to his first cocktail bar.

Our cocktail at home growing up was a Crown and Coke. And my dad had only drank Macaloney’s neat so far. So this was something special.

A quick message to @mikey_gosling letting him know we were coming, we were greeted at @projectgigglewater with hugs from @malucarillo and two seats at the bar.

Mikey made my dad three cocktails, all with @macaloneysdistillery. All from his mind, no menu to work with.

He watched with awe as the crew performed magic behind the bar. The speed, the precision, talking to him and asking about his day, telling the history of the cocktail and asking if he liked it. Tattoo’d, young, passionate, warm and so friendly…my dad was blown away. A totally different experience and one that I made sure to capture on camera. I won’t soon forget it. This is a core memory.

My dad asked if I would put this on Facebook because he wanted to show his friends too. He has already placed three proud phone calls around Canada to share his experience.

Quick story on why bartenders are so special. Especially Mikey.

I met @mikey_gosling randomly at @goodnightcocktailclub one night. He sat beside me, we hit it off immediately when he said to make me a smiley face as a garnish for my killer coconut rum whisky experiment (I am on the hunt for a recipe).

Fast forward a few weeks later, I’m sitting at @projectgigglewater with him and his friends having an impromptu tasting of @macaloneysdistillery. I’m pretty sure I was wearing a hoodie and he was having a burger and his friends just arrived and everyone dived in.

When I talk about how much I love being in an industry that brings people together, this is the real stuff. The stories. The laughs. The absolute lack of pretension and ego.

Shout out to Mikey’s arm. It’s the only picture I have. But it’s super long so it got in the shot.

the stress of deciding which restaurant to go to because there’s so many options is real!!

@imanishijapanesekitchen dinner was 10/10 this would be a cute date spot too
@projectgigglewater sit at the bar & order a cocktail of their list they were playing great music good vibe
@mothercocktailbar amazing cocktails & martinis we sat outside
@union_restaurant was worth the hype for me! comfort delicious brunch that hit the spot

The Big Mac spring rolls were unreal. Beef, cheese, onions and pickles with mac sauce, but somehow better than an actual Big Mac.

The Meloncholy was sweet and bitter in the best way, while the Three Rum Problem went down way too easily for a drink made with three kinds of rum.

The olives, Tom Yum Fried Chicken and roasted Brussel Sprouts were all so good, which is not what I expected from a cocktail bar.

And then came the Smoke & Tallow. The smoky campfire smell hit before the glass even landed. It honestly felt like my soul was being cleansed.

Project Gigglewater is definitely worth adding to your Toronto list.
