In November we had the pleasure of running our annual School Counsellors & Psychologists Conference in vibrant Melbourne! 🌟

Our delegates were treated to an inspiring lineup of speakers covering an array of thought-provoking topics. From Dr George Halasz enlightening us on “Therapists and ‘Messy’ Heart-sink Moments during Covid Pandemic in Clinics, Schools and Families: Relational Rupture-Repair Cycles,” to Michele Chevalley Hedge’s talk regarding “The Many Paths of Wellbeing.” Every session was a wealth of knowledge!

The final session of the conference was nothing short of sensational, thanks to Lucy Thomas’ presentation “Beyond tolerance: Empowering young people as inclusive allies” and Dr Victoria Rawlings discussion on “Thinking and talking about gender and sexuality at school: Resisting the loud silences.” Both left us all inspired and energised.

A massive shoutout to Bree, our phenomenal photographer, for capturing the essence and energy of the two action-packed days! 📸 @breeanadunbar

This week in Canberra, AYAC was joined by @kanoravalji and @projectrockit cofounder, @lucylockit to run a dynamic day on Youth Leadership with the @youthgovau Youth Steering Committee. We talked leadership styles, the importance of core values, finding your ‘why’ and what it takes to be a leader. SPOILER ALERT: There is no one way to be a youth leader!
It’s the combination of diverse experiences, personalities, skills and values that adds the superpower strength to youth leadership groups.

Stay tuned for ways to get involved with AYAC in the near future!

With #technology constantly changing and adapting faster than law and policy, how do we ensure that the next big stage of #socialtechnology is designed with young people in mind? 📲 🌎

PROJECT ROCKIT is answering this very question as we embark on a mission to centre #diverse #youthvoices in our digital future, especially those who are at greater risk of encountering negative online experiences.

Together with @Meta we gathered 42 Youth Consultants aged between 18 to 25, from across Australia nominated by PROJECT ROCKIT and 7 other leading organisations in #youth, #mentalhealth and #technology including @UNICEFAustralia, @Indigitaledutech, @Minus18, @Orygen, @headspace, @reachout_aus and @centre.for.multicultural.youth

There was also a fantastic #intersectionality between youth consultants, with 85% of consultants having 2 or more lived and living experiences and identities, including #FirstNations, #LGBTQIA+, #Multicultural, #Disability, #Neurodiversity, #MentalHealth, and more.

The insights and expertise shared across this project were gathered in the formal report ‘Our Metaverse: Young People & The Digital Future’, designed to provide stakeholders, organisations, and policy makers working in and regulating this space with a greater understanding of how to not only be safe, but also inclusive and equitable.

Small business can change the world, and this is how @projectrockit are doing it 🌈💪🏽🌏

Two of the incredible people in this photo are Lucy and Rosie Thomas. Sisters. Besties. Big-hearted, talented, kind, giving and creative. The Co-Founders are recipients of an Order of Australia Medal, recognising their service to youth, and contribution to tackling bullying through their work leading Project Rockit, and some of the most humble people you'd meet.

Project Rockit became a beloved client of Peach and we have loved each other ever since.

Working with these two humans has been an experience that has hit all of my feels. I adore these humans and their team. I adore their business and every one of their staff. I love their ideas and how they have grown so much with their business. You have taught me so much about inclusivity, equality and respect.

You see, Project Rockit is Australia's Youth Driven Movement Against Online Bullying and Hate. They have proven in the 1000s of workshops run by the PRock team, that young people can stand against bullying and unite as a power against hate and prejiduce.

Imagine going to a music festival headed up by the coolest young presenters, learning about how to stand up for your mates and others being bullied. Learning what to do if you see hatred online or in the school yard. All while being at school with your school buds, in the school hall or theatre.

That's how this small business is making the impact they set out to.

If you want to see what purpose-led, social impact business is? It's right here, with Project Rockit and the Thomas sisters. @projectrockit has impacted hundreds of 1000s of students and still counting 🤩

How is your small business changing the world? Share it with me below 👇

So grateful for the opportunity to work with @meta for their summit on “Youth Safety and Well-Being” last month via @teamadvoc8 at the @convene DC. A subject so important for our children today using social media. We were already so honored to glam some amazing guest speakers from all over the world (i.e. CEOs of @projectrockit @connectsafely) then at the end to receive a compliment from one of the directors that “We were the best part of the day” put us all on cloud 9. THANK YOU to my passionate team that worked hard by my side from 8 AM-5 PM who took me out to dinner after for my birthday! #grateful 🥲♥️

According to Ditch the Label's 2017 'In:Game Abuse' Report, 1 in 2 gamers have been subjected to online hate within a game at some point. 🤯

It's never been more clear that the world of #gaming needs more #kindness.

At the start of the month, we partnered with @ddbgroupaustralia and @clickmedia.group to launch #KindRoyale - the world's first
@fortnite tournament in which the top prize didn’t go to the best player, but the kindest.

Hosted by pro gamer and streamer Nova @nova.bayl, 80 players streamed the event across Facebook Gaming, Twitch and YouTube where they modelled kindness and respect to 11.5 million of viewers.

Connection and community is what #gaming is meant to be about, and together we CAN make gaming a kinder practice 👾 🚀

Most of us are familiar with the concept of cyberbullying. But what might be more surprising is just how many forms that cyberbullying can take. And just how many of us have to deal with these forms of bullying in our online lives.

🙋‍♀️ So how do you know when those online exchanges have crossed over into the realm of cyber-bullying? And what do you do when it happens to you?

🎧 In this week’s episode of Safe Is Savvy, we’re joined by Jayde Petrie, Lead Team Coordinator at @projectrockit - who was on-hand to help us discuss the ins and outs of cyberbullying.

Welcome, new board members! Back in April, we announced that we were looking for "passionate, committed and forward-thinking leaders to grow our board of directors and lead Scarf into the future." And the response was overwhelming. After the difficult process of short-listing, many, many interviews and much deliberation we're now in process of welcoming five amazing humans onto the Scarf board - Henry Le, Alexandra Gronow, Rosie Thomas, Tharindu Jayadeva and Michael Bascetta. Each of them brings a wealth of knowledge, experience, wisdom, networks and all manner of good things to the Scarf Community, and we are absolutely thrilled that they're "on board" to guide Scarf into our thirteenth (!) year and well into the future 🙌🏽

We'll be introducing these legends individually over the coming weeks, but for now you can find out more about them in their board profiles. Just hit the link in our bio 🎉
