Everybody wants the perfect framing technique, but your receiving starts with how you set up behind the plate.

Your stance, balance, glove position, and timing all work together, so make sure you’re training every part of the skill instead of only focusing on what your glove does.

Comment “FRAMING” for receiving tips from a 15-year pro and former MLB catcher.

3 million views later…and this drill is still testing catchers.

It’s a fun way to finish a catching session while challenging reaction time, focus, and competitiveness.

Training can be challenging and still be fun. I like mixing in drills that push my catchers while giving them something they look forward to.

This rapid-fire receiving drill has become another favorite with my catchers. High speed and rapid fire is a good combo to keep catchers locked in at the end of a tough session 💪🏻

Activate your quick-twitch muscles by staying reactive with the Step-Up Drill 🔥

The goal is simple: gradually move closer to the machine, increase the velocity, and keep the movement simple and repeatable.

You’ll notice you need to do less as you go forward to get more with the barrel.

This forces you to stay on time, create clear direction, and maintain barrel control as the speed increases.

Then, when you move back to normal plate distance, the ball visually slows down, giving you more time to see it, stay direct, and let the barrel work. 🔥⏰

Which Angle is More Beneficial?

↘️ Closed Angle
• Get on plane early
• Tight turns
• Rotate behind the baseball instead of around it
• Exposes a pushy swing or a barrel that works around the ball

↙️ Open Angle
• Get on plane early and stay on plane
• Hold your lane and stay through the baseball with the front side
• Use the body instead of getting overly handsy
• Hold direction and drive the ball through the middle/right side

If you could only train ONE open angle or closed angle? And why?
