I used to bump @beatrockmusic as a kid pushing a VW Jetta around Newark Memorial High. Literally broke my speakers listening to Girl Like Me by @rockyrivera 2 weeks before graduation. When I got to college, The Bar dropped their first project and @bambudepistola dropped One Rifle Per Family and it got me through being in predominantly white Wisconsin. My freshman year, I had the opportunity to meet @bambudepistola @prometheusbrown and @rubyibarra and I was in charge of making sure they were all good in Madison. We swooped Geo from the airport and I said welcome to The UW and he went “yea you mean the OTHER U DUBB” Bam and C-Knowledge asked for weed, and at the time I had never smoked, but all my friends were rappers so I had a plug, C-Knowledge was about to roll up and we didn’t have papers so he opened the drawer to pull out the Bible to get a page out to roll up, when he opened up the Bible there was a p*rn DVD (something hella early 2000’s with the title I feel like it was backyard babes 17 or sumn) and everybody in the room started cracking up 💀  I opened and hosted that show when I was 19 and 13 years later, I had the honor of doing the same for Beatrock and Bass Building to a sold out show at The Ford theater. Insane how life works. Bambu, Rocky Rivera, Blue Scholars, Ruby, and so many artists from Beatrock soundtracked generations of kids who were finding themselves in the landscape of this country. What I saw at The Ford was decades of work, of what it looks like to build a base, build power, without selling out, or selling your people short. Thank you Bam for everything y’all have built!! Grateful to just witness and listen.

Shoutout to @kcb4eleven and @akbmedia.presents for producing BASS BUILDING. I also met Kat 20 or so years ago. She was the first pinay I ever saw taking on big projects/events. It inspired me. It still does! ✨

Some people just bring an energy that makes you listen and want to hear more. SHE IS HER. Not only did @gretchenbc_ kill it on the mic as host of BASS BUILDING, but she got up to vend for @brwngrlz at @filledmarket at 7am with the same energy. ✨

Will never not get lost backstage at The Ford. But it’s a great problem to keep having because it means my talented ass friends keep rocking the stage. ♥️

Earlier this year, at the beginning of March, @bambudepistola enlisted @et_iv, @fatgums, and myself to begin production work on a new album. The task was for us to create an album sampling only Filipino traditional instruments and meld it with a lot of low end. 7 months later, #bassbuilding is here!

Here’s how the beat for “FUKKAROUND” was made.

This has been such a special Filipino American History Month so far, both personally and professionally. Since we’ve been together, I truly believe that this was the best show I’ve ever seen @bambudepistola do. And like any partner, knowing all the ups and downs and still see the final execution end up being perfect as it was- not perfect as we planned, but because we all did it together- made it that much sweeter.

I have so much love for everyone that performed onstage and everyone in those seats that helped us do a SOLD OUT show at The Ford! What a momentous occasion to share with my fam!

always an honor to be back at @thefordla! 2 years ago was my last time performing at The Ford at 37 weeks pregnant, which I initially thought would be my last performance for awhile. definitely grateful for the blessings to be able to continue to do this. it was just as special this time being with my @beatrockmusic family. thank you los angeles for rockin’ with us (and everyone who drove in/flew from all over!). y’all SOLD OUT The Ford!

BASS BUILDING at The Ford - Act 2

TO EVERY SINGLE PERSON who took their hard earned money to purchase a ticket, made travel arrangements and celebrated with us at The Ford, I appreciate you beyond measure! When I looked out into the crowd I saw only familiar faces… I saw the faces of people who’ve been coming to my shows since I started, friends and family, comrades I’ve organized with forever, and most importantly: THEIR FAMILIES AND CHILDREN! The years have been more than kind to me, and this past Saturday proved it. 20+ years of doing this and we’re all still here — whether it was out in the crowd or with the ancestors on stage: WE AIN’T GOING NOWHERE!

Lastly, I have to give a gigantic shout out to someone who stepped in at the 25th hour and absolutely owned that stage — @gretchenbc_! In less than two sentences of me trying to convey the concept and the role she was now stepping in to play, she got it immediately. What a talented gem in our community! S/O to @fern_doe and @et_iv for pushing me to make sure she played a bigger role in BASS BUILDING! Also, thank you to @sammay.art for bringing the ancestors into the fray by opening the show with beautiful movement.
