Last night, we hosted our annual client, supplier and talent event with the team from @deadlyponies

Founders Liam and Steven gave us a behind-the-scenes look at what they’ve been working on and introduced us to the incredible Mr Hoiho. Inspired by one of the world’s rarest penguin species, each bag is crafted from past-season leather offcuts. I was lucky enough to secure one of the limited-edition 100 pieces, which sold out within a day or two of launch.

Even better, Deadly Ponies raised an incredible $20,000 for Forest & Bird New Zealand.

Liam and Steve also generously donated a $500 Deadly Ponies voucher, won by @samhorsnell from @nzicc Sam went home with two Deadly Ponies pieces last year, and added another to her collection last night!

A big thank you to everyone who joined us and made it such a lovely evening of conversation, connection - and plenty of fabulous shopping.

A week on from Property Council New Zealand’s The Property Conference in Sydney and it’s still worth reflecting on. Seeing how a major development actually scales, the challenges on the ground – that’s not something you get from your office chair. Director Kyle Dirse got a full circle moment out of it – seeing how a project he’d engineered in Sydney years back has evolved.

Over 380 delegates were there. Good mix of speakers and content, but what really stuck were the chats between the sites and sessions – conversations with people who are actually building things.

New contacts, old contacts in different contexts, proper industry talk. 🙌

Upper House | A new model for vertical living

Koichi presented Upper House, our benchmark project with @ariaproperty.com.au to @propertycouncilnz The Property Conference 2026. He addressed one of the biggest challenges of our time, how to establish community in high-density, high-rise towers. #verticalcommunity

The 2026 NZ Property Industry Awards magazine finally arrived in the mail and we worked on five of the nominated or featured projects, which is pretty cool. We quite often don't get to see these projects through to the end as we're in the very early design stages. It's always interesting to see the ones that pop up for awards 12 to 24 months down the track.

The Shrewsbury Building was recently recognised at the Property Council New Zealand Rider Levett Bucknall Property Industry Awards for its outstanding contribution to both education and heritage preservation.

The project received an Excellence Award in the Heritage and Adaptive Reuses category and a Merit Award in the Education category.

By thoughtfully combining contemporary learning spaces with the preservation of the building’s historic character, the redevelopment has created an inspiring environment that supports collaboration, creativity and academic achievement. It also strengthens students’ connection to the rich history and traditions that have shaped generations of Dio girls.

Last month we attended the Women in Property Auckland event hosted by Property Council New Zealand and came away genuinely inspired.

Hearing from Anna Goulding, Lara Wall and Leana De Bruin, hosted by Paula Bennett, reinforced that high performance is built on discipline, commitment and a willingness to keep improving.

Key reflections included doing the work others won’t, asking questions to close gaps, backing yourself, and building teams grounded in trust, honesty and mutual respect. There was also an honest discussion around redefining identity and continuing to grow beyond sport.

Lara referenced a quote from Messi, “It took me 17 years and 114 days to become an overnight success,” highlighting that success is the result of sustained effort and long-term commitment.

A sharp and insightful session with valuable perspective on performance, pressure and growth.

Great turnout of Property Council New Zealand members at the Dunedin Seismic Risk Update! Our Senior Quantity Surveyor Charlotte Foster moderated a panel discussion between keynote speaker Matthew McDermott from MBIE, who has been leading the Seismic Reform Work Programme, and Naylor Love Pre-Construction Engineer Cameron Belliss.

The session explored the significant legislative changes that could reshape Dunedin’s built environment, ideally timed the day after the second reading of the Earthquake-Prone Building (EPB) Amendment Bill in Parliament. With Dunedin and Coastal Otago set to move from a low to a medium seismic zone under the new system, there will be an increased focused and reduced timeframes for retrofitting of remaining EPB’s buildings there could be in scope for the first time. Attendees gained valuable insight into the differences between the longstanding %NBS framework and the new seismic assessment regime, which places greater emphasis on unreinforced masonry buildings and structures with high-risk structural deficiencies.

Charlotte kept the discussion flowing at just the right pace, encouraging plenty of audience participation, while Matthew and Cameron combined their respective expertise in policy development and applied structural engineering to translate complex technical concepts into practical, real-world understanding. Thanks to the Property Council for facilitating a fascinating session.
