Things went HORRIBLE wrong 🤦🏿‍♂️🤦🏿‍♂️🤦🏿‍♂️. I was 20 minutes early for my first BLACK ON ASPEN Congressional Black Caucus event… then my camera batteries decided to malfunction. 😳

I was already at the event. On time. Ready to work.

Then my batteries stopped cooperating.

With only 20 minutes before things kicked off, I had to make a decision fast. I told my client @lorelle.atkinson what happened, and thankfully, she was understanding.

I ordered an Uber and headed straight to a camera store to find a replacement battery.

I got what I needed… but now came the next problem:

How do I get back to the event quickly?

Traffic was moving slow, so I had to switch it up.

I grabbed a @lyft bike 🚲💨 and made my way back.

And just like that, I was back in position and ready to capture the event.

My first Congressional Black Caucus experience was incredible, but this is the part of being a professional that people don’t always see.

The cameras. The events. The big moments.

And everything that can go wrong behind the scenes before you capture them.

Shoutout to @lorelle.atkinson for being understanding and trusting me to handle it, and shoutout to @lyft for coming through with the bike when I needed to move. 🙌🏾

You can plan everything perfectly. You still have to know how to adapt when things don’t go according to plan.

I usually don’t shoot much E-6 film, but I recently decided to give it another go with a roll of Kodak Ektachrome E100. I dropped it off at @prophotodc in DC, who sent it out for development, and I was really happy with the results.

I wouldn’t say Ektachrome is my favorite film stock. I think I still prefer Ektar 100, but I definitely enjoyed shooting it. Here are some of my favorite shots from Pittsburgh captured on the roll.

Late post but we’re LIVE this Saturday August 29th at 4:00pm in Georgetown!!! We will be meeting at the Francis Scott Key Bridge memorial park. This park is located at the end of Mst going west and walking distance from Rosslyn station. From there, we will make our way east via Cadys Alley all the way to the C&O Canal Park. Along the way? The Old Powder Mill, Georgetown Waterfront, Blues Alley, and more! As always, this is a non-themed meet up. If you’re coming to model, reach out to connect with us so we can let the community know. I’ll talk about it till I’m blue in the face…photography saved my life. I got to a point in my life where I was doing real bad living in SF. I was depressed, I was drinking and smoking multiple times a day, every single day. I had no regard for my health, wellbeing, or anything. I knew that my camera was the only thing that truly got me outdoors. Whether I went by myself or with my friends, I would go shoot every single day to get away from self-harming behaviors. Even during covid, I would be outside in some of the emptiest streets I’ve ever seen in my life STILL with my camera in hand. I’ve gotten tears on my camera, I’ve gotten my own blood on it, I’ve had one destroyed, I’ve been gifted some, you name it.

I don’t know where this thing will take me, but I know where I will be on World Photography Day and I hope you come out as well! Join myself, the @streetmeetdc community, my friends of @portraitmeetdc, and many others as we connect to celebrate our craft, our journeys, and the photography community as a whole!

WE BACK UP!!
SHOOT THE NIGHT II is FINALLY back this Sunday August 9th at 8:00pm in Georgetown. This past Sunday had to be postponed due to the weather. I don’t care if it even snows on Sunday we will be OUTSIDE. Once again, although this is not a model focused meet up, you are encouraged to come. Our featured Night Model @hollycahrens will STILL be with us. Come through, learn how to shoot long exposure, light trails, people at night, and have a great time. This meet is open to EVERYONE! If you need any further details please don’t hesitate to reach out. We will be meeting at the Georgetown Waterfront to shoot sunset as well as planes flying near the Kennedy center. From there, we will walk up Wisconsin onto M Street for other sights. Come join us!!

As promised, Shoot The Night II is happening this Sunday in Georgetown at 8:00pm. If you’re someone who has always asked “When you going back out at night?” this is the PERECT time to come kick it with not only myself but some other dope talented photographers as well also. If you’re someone who aways wanted to learn night photography, DEFINITELY come through. Some folks have asked about models. Don’t worry about all that just pop up. I may have a surprise, I may have two surprises. The real fun part, is that I will be giving out cool tips, providing hands-on instructions, and showing you some of the things I look for when I’m out shooting at night!

Some insight as to our path of is shown in the accompanying photos. I recommend a tripod, a camera in which you can keep the shutter open for some time, a wide angle lens, long lenses, whatever you want to shoot with. If you have light wands or equipment, that would be dope as well for light trails.

Join us this coming Saturday August 1st for StreetMeetDC: Gallery Place. We will be meeting at the Arch right outside of Gallery Place Metro Station at 5:00pm.
