As we ramp up to open up fall enrollment, we wanted to share that one of the requirements of being a Detroit Boy is a bank account through @firstmerchants.

Our boys get experiences ranging from opening checking & savings accounts to learning how to save, manage, and grow their money, this is more than a formality — this is a financial awakening.

This is how we change the trajectory.
This is how we build legacy.

Yesterday was bigger than selling salads. It was about teaching our young leaders how to **listen, connect, ask, and keep going even when they hear no.**

Before politics, I spent 10 years building a career in retention, sales, and customer experience. One thing that experience taught me is that a few minutes of real rapport can lead to profound insight about what a customer truly needs—even when they are not saying it directly. Active listening helps you serve people based on what they actually need, not what you assume they need. And one thing is for sure: you have to ask for the sale. It is mandatory, not optional.

But maybe the most powerful lesson in business is learning that **“no” is not the end of the conversation—it is part of the process.** Every no can teach you something, sharpen your approach, and prepare you for the next yes.

That is exactly what our young leaders experienced as we kicked off our 2026 Entrepreneurship Programming with @planted.detroit . Our boys were tasked with engaging customers, listening for their needs, recommending the right product, and confidently asking for the sale.

The result? Nearly **$1,000 in salad sales**—and they will see real returns deposited directly into their @firstmerchants accounts.

We are not just teaching our boys how to make money. We are teaching them how to communicate, build relationships, handle rejection, recognize opportunity, and believe in the value they bring to the table.

That is entrepreneurship. That is leadership. That is building young men who know how to create their own lane. 💼🥗💰

Week one of Detroit Boys Summer Camp is officially in the books—and it was a success!

This summer, we are serving young people across **four sites**, each designed to help our boys grow in a different way. From hands-on construction and learning how to build with tools, to content creation and finding their voice, to mental-health and wellness activities that help them ground themselves, and physical fitness and mentoring that builds strength, discipline, and confidence—we are creating real pathways for our young leaders.

This is bigger than summer camp. It is safe spaces, new skills, positive male role models, creativity, movement, healing, and opportunity all in one.

A major shoutout to our partners at @commonwealth313 for believing in this work and helping us create meaningful summer experiences for our young leaders.

We are proud of every young person who showed up ready to learn, lead, and have fun this week. Week two, let’s keep building!

Yesterday was more than a cleanup — it was the first visible step toward a vision.

The Detroit Boys Mentoring Club was proud to participate in the City of Detroit’s Annual Motor City Makeover in District 1, where we officially unveiled our newly acquired land in the Brightmoor community.

This space will become the future home of the Detroit Boys Chill Zone — a youth mental health and programming space designed to give our boys a safe place to breathe, build, heal, create, and grow. The vision includes outdoor agriculture, art, fitness, mentoring, and intentional programming rooted in wellness and community.

Yesterday was Phase 1: clearing the land. And thanks to the support of @majorcontractinggroup and @baileyparkndc , we were able to completely clear the block of blight and debris.
This is what it looks like when vision meets action.
This is what it looks like when community shows up for young people.
This is what it looks like when we build the spaces our boys deserve.
The streets can’t have them.
The prisons can’t have them.
The graves can’t have them.
We’re building something special in Brightmoor.

No student should ever sit in class lacking confidence because they lack access to hygiene products, education, or support.

That’s why we created the Detroit Boys Confidence Room Hygiene Closet at UPREP Science & Math — a safe, judgment-free space where students can get the help and supplies they need with dignity.
With the support of United Way and The Detroit Rotary Club, this is bigger than hygiene. Over the next 2 years, we’ll also provide confidence-building programming like haircuts, facials, manicures, and real talks that pour into our students from the inside out.

Yesterday at our @sciencexmath afterschool program, We partnered with the football team @energyoverfloworganization @proplayerdetroit to lock in on one message: Be on GO. 💯

When you stop moving, you invite stagnation… distractions… wasted time.
Just like water—when it stops flowing, it collects mold, disease, and filth. But when it’s moving? It’s powerful, clean, and unstoppable.

That’s how our young men have to move. Constant growth. Constant pressure. Constant purpose.
We closed it out the right way—stretching, activating the body, and getting the mind ready for practice.

At UPREP Ellen Thompson Elementary, today was all about mental health, wellness, and responsibility.

We talked to our young kings about being good stewards of what they have right now — their opportunities, their education, and the extracurricular activities their village is putting in place for them.
Because even at a young age…

what you do with what you have matters.
We’re teaching our boys that discipline isn’t just for later — it’s for right now. Take the serious things serious, and watch how your life starts to shift.
And of course… after the lesson, we had to burn off some energy with physical training 💪🏾
