Join us in New York for another evening of independent animation, strange stories, and good company! Poster design by @stefitesio We’re bringing together a selection of animated shorts from filmmakers @prosarapi @zia.amria @icarizk @knart @noahsterling42 @kalomikaworld @raccoonnboy @c8l.in @lije.mo and @aadaxyz Expect a little bit of everything, from experimental animation and surreal comedy to some wonderfully weird body horror. We’ll also be screening a special work-in-progress of SHIFT, a brand-new animated short featuring a star-studded voice cast. This will be the first time SHIFT has been shown to an audience, and we’d love your help shaping the final film! We’ll be collecting some quick feedback as we head into the final stages of production. Snacks, beverages, and good (but spooky) vibes will be provided. Come hang out, watch some incredible animation, and meet fellow filmmakers and animation lovers.

Sweet dreams. Bad guests. SWEET DREAMS, directed by @prosarapi and @zia.amria follows a melancholic motel cleaning lady who has spent a lifetime quietly enduring disrespect until something finally snaps. The film pairs bright colors and soft, rounded characters with a story that gets increasingly dark, funny, and violent. Priorelli and Zilli created the film together using frame-by-frame digital animation, often passing the same scenes back and forth between keyframes and in-betweens. With no traditional storyboard and only a general script to guide them, the story continued to evolve as they animated. Their influences range from the revenge cinema of Lady Vengeance to the carefully composed tableaux of Roy Andersson. “The best part  and definitely the most fun  was deciding how to kill the girls.” — Sara Priorelli SWEET DREAMS premieres tomorrow, September 22 at 12 PM ET on the Scrimshaw Animation YouTube channel. THIS SEPTEMBER ON SCRIMSHAW Five films. Five very different approaches to animated storytelling. A new independent short every week. 9/1: DORK Directed by @rye.toasty A fleeting encounter between two strangers erupts into a psychedelic mixed-media journey through color, sound, memory, and New York City. 9/8: WHOSE WOODS ARE THESE Directed by @knart A family mystery unfolds across 500 feet of woven fabric, using the loom as camera, animation tool, and editing machine. 9/15: JOHN WISHES Directed by @yangy12181 A strange and deeply personal journey through isolation, transformation, and the struggle to express a feeling you can’t quite put into words. 9/22: SWEET DREAMS Directed by @prosarapi & @zia.amria A melancholic motel cleaning lady reaches her breaking point in a brightly colored, darkly funny tale of disrespect, awakening, and revenge. 9/29: THE MANDRAKE MACHINE Directed by @raccoonnboy A young inventor is pulled into a recurring nightmare where a terrifying plush rabbit may not be quite the monster it seems.
