HELLO ❣️took me a while but been meaning to talk abt this ever since.. so beware biggg threadd on sound tech crew memori festival report incominggg 👻🌿( if u feel like reading hehe)..

During my past years of sound-system tweaking and organizing full DIY raves, I've never really come across a fully FLINTA-led tech team, or even a majority-FLINTA collective, besides a few rare, noticeable exceptions that were clearly a once-a-year encounter for me (CRTTR crew, FBM, Psst, Reef Parties, Subglow, and recently Tornadao Riddim Festival.. i'm maybe forgetting a few here). It was also my first time managing this many stages, and recruiting for that a crew of backline/sound-tech volunteers, so I felt eager to share my experience here...

Many months prior to Memori , Victoire (victoire vital) and I were asked to collaborate on the festival as backline managers (in short, managing the stages and audio equipment for artists, CDJs, mixers, cables, mics, and so on.. organizing soundchecks, ensuring the flow of performances, and being the bridge with the sound techs..) on the four stages Lux, Aura, Unda, and Mentis, with a team of our own choosing......

It was months of thinking and planning with Victoire, as we wanted to build it in a way that fit our beliefs, and, more broadly, the desire to make it "safer," to create a cocoon that could limit the sexist realities of this usual field of work. It was only natural for us to want to build it with a majority flinta crew. We wanted to give flinta techs the opportunity to connect more and have more opportunities in the scene, and it also made sense to recruit people who were less at ease with audio but wanted to learn more about it, as well as about party organizing in general. We built our team around this idea of hopefully sharing bits of knowledge and bonding with our crew.

While in the heart of the festival's action, I felt every day the opportunity to experiment with it differently than how it's normally designed, or rather how I've seen it done, and to shape-shift it to make it my own. Jobs in the "normal" world always have this hierarchical aspect of being already defined and contoured for their area of action by

Tonight, I’m playing in Marseille, where I recently relocated.

As an homage, I’ve just recorded a radio show with 60 minutes of tracks related to the Phocaean city, which will appear on my SoundCloud soon (“Wait wut?!! Fictions is BACK???”). I have a lot of love for the French scene and it’s been nourishing to settle roots again in one of the countries where I grew up.

Gigging is still very much part of the equation, and I’m enjoying that too (thanks, @useless.seconds, for supporting me with these shows—all of which feel just right!). We’ve started working on a (frankly, quite epic and hypothetical) flight-free tour to Asia and Australia; you can follow its progress in the usual place.

Speaking of the newsletter, in the most recent edition, I wrote about the cost of last year’s North America tour, including thoughts on the gigging economy and insights into my own situation. One of my hopes is that financial transparency can foster solidarity among nightlife workers.

Tomorrow, we’ll be celebrating Fête du Travail. Workers once fought for eight-hour days. With all the content and data we’re increasingly asked to provide, it often feels like our modern labour far exceeds these numbers (featured page: @lizpelly - Mood Machine). I won’t be using this app on May 1st—or for the rest of that month.

I look forward to dancing, marching, and hugging IRL.

Không chạy theo xu hướng, không thông báo trước – âm nhạc của họ tập trung vào những lớp low-end mang màu sắc psychedelic và luôn mở ra nhiều biến thể bất ngờ. useless seconds không phải là một danh tính cố định, mà là một không gian chung nơi âm nhạc tìm thấy sự gắn kết, chiều sâu và cộng hưởng.

Bắt đầu hành trình DJ từ năm 2017, các set của anh mang màu sắc eclectic với groove dày và tinh thần psychedelic, từng xuất hiện tại nhiều venue và festival như Savage, HUM, Studio Adventure hay Equation, đồng thời đánh dấu bước ra quốc tế với màn debut tại ://aboutblank Berlin năm 2023.

Tanohi
Bắt đầu sự nghiệp từ năm 2024, Tanohi được biết đến với phong cách phóng khoáng và không bị giới hạn bởi thể loại. Các set của anh thường di chuyển giữa Minimal House và Techno, nhưng luôn sẵn sàng pha trộn nhiều màu sắc khác nhau để tạo nên những khoảnh khắc bất ngờ và kết nối tự nhiên với sàn nhảy.

Yang
Yang là một gương mặt mới đến từ Hà Nội, tìm đến bàn DJ sau nhiều năm gắn bó với dancefloor. Mang tinh thần progressive trong cách chọn nhạc, anh nhanh chóng cho thấy cá tính riêng và nguồn năng lượng đầy tiềm năng phía sau booth.

I always find these year-end recaps a bit strange to write at a time when the world feels increasingly unhinged, as we are witnessing far right taking over the West.
Still, in the midst of this all, music has remained my place of refuge. I was lucky to cope through sound and to contribute to some amazing projects with passionate people.
