Introducing our new rural studio.

We’ve been quietly creating a new home for BOX 9 in the East Sussex countryside - a reimagined workshop + barn designed as a place to step away from the noise of the city and come together.

As our team and projects have grown, so too has the way we want to work. You’ll still find us stomping around London in steel toe cap boots, out on site or tucked away in our East London studio - but now, occasionally, you’ll find us here too.

A place for our team, our makers + collaborators. For focused design sessions, long conversations, a canvas for shoots, gatherings + space to think.

Contemporary, natural + filled with soft rural light.

All our values, wrapped up in one space.

Soon, we’ll be opening the doors a little wider and sharing it with others too.

For now, a first glimpse.

Bank Holiday bits n’ bobs ❤️ and a lovely start to September.✨

I’m not entirely sure how we are into the ‘ber months already (?!) and alongside that ‘going back to school’ feeling which seemingly never goes away, I’m leaning into September as the ideal opportunity to ground, reset, and say yes to new (and hopefully exciting!) things. 💫

London is nodding towards autumn, so I’m making the most of any blue skies and sunshine, torn between a denial that summer is ending, and an increasing readiness for the changing colours, cosy coffees, snuggly knits, and maybe even Sunday roasts… anyone else?

I’d love to hear how you’re finding the transition into September, and what you’re looking forward to… 🍂🥰

Dear Friends,
If you’ve been wanting to taste the food I cook in the calm of a beautifully curated space, then the opportunity has (finally) presented itself.
In partnership with the wonderful @provision_se1 I’m going to host a series of seasonal supper clubs, devoted to the meat, fish and vegan dishes I love to cook. A culinary love letter of sorts.
It will be an intimate, 8-seat dining experience that will cover 5 courses, held on the mezzanine at #provisionse1 Maltby Street, London.

I have some garden wildlife updates to share, starting with day moths.

Over the last decade we've had this beauty emerge in our garden, and in recent years two a year. Even despite their being literally no garden last year they've come back, and we may even have three now.

This morning in quick succession I saw these two, what I thought were called garden tiger moths, but turns out they're the much more scarce Jersey tiger. Shame I didn't get a shot of their shocking orange underwings. Still.

The objects we bring into a space are often small, but their role is far from insignificant.

After the architecture, the layout, the structural rhythm and the larger gestures of material + light, come the pieces that meet the hand: the bowl, the lamp, the vessel, the textile, the chair, the table.

The quiet object placed exactly where it belongs.

Before they find their final home, these pieces are gathered together, unpacked, laid out and considered side by side.

A quiet moment of looking, balancing and listening - understanding what each object brings, and where it belongs.

We source slowly + carefully, looking for pieces with texture, tone and tale.

Objects made by people who understand material. Objects that carry craft, usefulness + atmosphere.

Our work is holistic, from the earliest spatial thinking through to these final details.

Because we believe the smallest object can change the way a person pauses, reaches, sits, looks + remembers.
