I have my mental list of my ten favourite albums of all time, and it's always evolved over the years. But there are favourites which fluctuate with age, and there's THE ONE. The record so influential and pivotal and formative, that its status will never, ever change. W.A.S.P.'s 1984 debut album is that LP for me.

By the end of grade 8 I started gravitating toward heavy metal. Every day at school was awful, I was pushed around, mocked, hurt, intimidated all day long. Metal offered catharsis; I could drown out all the self-destructive thoughts with loud guitars, screams, and, I won't lie, revenge fantasies.

Anyway, W.A.S.P. was ALL of that, but elevated. When I saw them on TV I was mesmerized! They were so over the top: blood, torture, raw meat, fire, it was Grand Guignol in heavy metal for. And the record was so badass, I can't overstate it. The tone had so much more snarl and bite than all the other LA bands, and for those of us who had cheap facsimiles of the Sony Walkman, it was SO SHRILL. I would blast that cassette so loudly into my ears. I Wanna Be Somebody was empowering, L.O.V.E. Machine had swagger, School Daze was way too relatable ("burn it down!!!"). Then side two was dark as heck, Hellion, Sleeping in the Fire, On Your Knees, Tormentor, The Torture Never Stops...what a clinic in cutting-edge metal.

By the time I hit grade 10 in 1985, I was still bullied a lot but I had a few peers who I was able to bond over metal with. I had an amazing English teacher named Cathy Sproule, and one day she assigned us an essay project: write about something you're interested in. I was stuck, and Cathy said, "you and your friends seem to like heavy metal. Why don't you write about a band?"

So I went all-in. I wrote a detailed history of W.A.S.P., all the blood and fire, Hustler magazine, Animal (F**k Like a Beast), no details spared! And this was catholic school! I got top marks. My path towards music journalism was unorthodox, but I eventually made it. It was W.A.S.P. that planted that seed. No hyperbole, this album changed my life. 40 years old today. 🤘🔥🤘

Our friends over at @prowrestlingx have done a solid for the gaming community. They've slashed (or should we say STOMPED) their regular game pricing to 99cents!! (normally around $20 or $30). They want to ensure that you stay entertained (and have a place to channel all that vented up iso-energy) and take it out in the ring (or the cage - so we've heard). We think this is pretty awesome. So many businesses globally are contributing anything and everything they can no matter how big or small. We're serious - let's bet behind all the companies making a difference. We need them all so much right now.

Head over to @prowrestlingx and check them out. Thanks guys - you rock!! - (not to be confused with @therock - that would be copyright infringement now wouldn't it - but he definitely rocks too!!)

Ok. We’ve all done it! We’ve said the words, “My dad is stronger 💪🏾 than your dad!” I can definitely say without a doubt that my dad @jrankinartist is the strongest since he beat the best of the best in the ring. Sorry Nacho Libre @jackblack 😅 — our Slap! Family artist @tanoshiboy designed this sticker to commiserate the momentous occasion.

The priest concert was the best thing EVER! Best money I’ve ever spent seeing my dad that happy. I don’t think I’ve ever seen him smile so much. It makes me all warm and fuzzy inside because he never gets what he wants and always puts others before him. Man I am forever grateful I was able to make THIS his Father’s Day gift. I love you dad. More than I could ever describe.
